May Bumps, May Term 2014
re Julia & Fordy's 50th bumps race montage by Thomas - Mon 16th Jun 2014, 7:48pm
It is with a touch of sadness and many fond memories that this montage shows how many people you have rowed with during your time at First and Third. I am pleased to have been a fellow oarsman and later a friend to you both.
Thank you both for your commitment and dedication to helping the boat club flourish, both during the good times, and the being bumped times. There are just a few people from my time at Cambridge who I would concede love the club more than I do, and I'm pleased that you are two of those people.

re Overbumping by Mark - Sat 9th Jun 2012, 8:49am
Oh man, I remember this epic. One of the greatest bumps in my time. I think that's me on the very right absolutely loving it!
Lent Bumps, Lent Term 2011
re Pushing Off by Peter - Wed 24th Aug 2011, 2:36am
For a moment I wondered if I really row with my hands this far apart, but then I zoomed in. To reassure RTT and others who've tried to cure my 'innovative' outside hand technique, I don't generally row like this; presumably I was doing something with a water bottle.

re Coming under Hammersmith by Swords - Tue 5th Apr 2011, 7:50pm
Barrell is comfortably losing the gurn competition in bow IV here. Zoom in for best effect. I think it's between Fordy with the 'protruding chin' and Yimin with the 'battle cry' for the winner though...

re As Close As It Got by BJ - Mon 2nd Mar 2009, 11:37pm
Fletch's excuse for why he never told Emma that Downing had closed was that he 'could see from their catches and body positions that they couldn't sustain it'. I was sceptical until I saw this photo. Good effort from Downing, though - I was scared watching it at the time!

I can't believe the Maggie scum (?) have painted over the motorway bridge! I haven't been to Cam for ages so admittedly it may have happened some time ago... :)

Still, it reminds me of what a great effort it was to get it painted in the first place. Perhaps it's time for an account of the FATASS project on a member's only part of the website?

Fairbairns Dinner, Mich Term 1999
re Ready for dinner! by Simon - Sat 8th Mar 2008, 3:34pm
This had never been done before and we weren't sure it would work. Luckily we found a great caterer who was a big help and was able to set up a kitchen in the weights room and one of the boat bays. We combined it with the boat naming earlier the same day and thus subsidised the costs. Every part of the boathouse and the entire fleet was cleaned, the decorations went up (NB the attempts to make the lights blue and gold), and on the previous Saturday Sophie and I had filled her car with alcohol from a French supermarket.
I was so chuffed to walk into the boathouse and find it looking like this.

re Testing the smokescreen before setting off by Simon - Mon 3rd Mar 2008, 11:39pm
It was too windy in the reach to light the smoke bombs, so we never used them in anger. And the fumes weren't exactly healthy either. Despite the precaution of a collander from Whewell's Court, we still slightly melted the canvas of the boat.
