yay maggie 3 are now in the 3rd division again! yay!
by Bored - Tue 1st Mar 2005, 5:02pm
With the stupid new Lents rule putting the rowing onto 5 days, has any crew ever managed an "uber-blade" by bumping on 5 consecutive days (I imagine this could only work starting in the 4th division?)

Regular website visitors may be interested/astonished/horrified to learn that I submitted a thesis yesterday. All being well, my time at college looks set to end, just short of 10 years after first setting foot in the place!

And yes, I hope I might trial for the Fairbairn VIII...

The elastic object with two white bits on goes around your neck. The tie does too. And the hood does too...errr.

Hmmm.
by Graduating - Wed 26th Jun 2002, 1:54pm
I've just picked up my three mystery items from Ryder and Amies. One of them seems to be a bow-tie, another I think is a hood, though it must be for people with very pointy heads and I've no idea which way up it goes. The other thing could be a garter for a leg of large girth. Or maybe not. Does anybody have any instructions on what to do with these things?

Yes indeed. I definitely faced two balls, and made an excellent connection with the first before being tremendously unlucky to fall to the second - clearly some ball tampering methinks.
by Bill Frindell - Tue 25th Jun 2002, 4:10pm
Dan, I apologise. The scorecard was incomplete and I could not remember whether it was you or Sarah that had been run out. I will amend this in the final version. Congratulations also on the champagne moment. (Any other comments or corrections welcome; match report on its way.)

I believe the score card isn't quite finished - I'm not sure Neil intended that it be online yet, so some mistakes are thereby my fault. That said, I guess he would be happy to hear any corrections... Neil?
by Not out I say - Tue 25th Jun 2002, 11:32am
Right. Who was scoring at the cricket and who typed in the score card?

Very disappointed to see that my innings now ends with "run out" - I was standing by the other stumps when the ball was thrown in.

mjb said: In 1999, FaT II were immediately behind Catz I.
Indeed. We had two row-overs behind Catz 1 on the Friday and Saturday evenings. On Friday, we didn't row particularly well and rowed over on station. On the Saturday, the crew was effectively down to 7 rowers from before Ditton as I was suffering from food poisoning which I'd picked up from Bella Pasta the night before. Despite this, we still rowed over on station with Catz. Of all the "What if..."s that suround bumps, this one - "What if I'd been healthy?" is the one that still hurts the most.
So yes, it is the 1999 2nd VIII's fault, but in turn, we blame Bella Pasta.

Good to see the men are making an effort for the Mays this year. I've only been in my kitchen twice today but the first time Mr Glass was having his tresses tamed and the second Mr Talbott. What gives? Is this some kind of crew bonding? Is Ray the Barber a little known rowing guru who is giving you all psychological preparation for the Mays? Who knows? It's a very suspicious.

(Should perhaps clarify that my kitchen looks over All Saints Passage and that Ray hasn't set up shop in the gyp room).

Do not have a slow last song - it doesn't work, I've tried it (with the admittedly not slow enough Toploader Dancing in the Moonlight ) (which should be in there as your opening track). Have one of the usual jumping up and down songs... and if you want to be really clever have whatever song the second eight have used earlier that evening (unless it's a hymn, or a slow song, or both).
Last song selection is less to do with tempo and more to do with participation, which is invoked through a combination of ultracheese and danceability (i.e. everyone trying to do the same thing, not anyone being good at dancing - boaties being co-ordinated out of a boat being unthinkable). With the likes of Zorba the Greek or New York, New York you won't go far wrong.

'I have a dream' that'I will survive' my exams even though 'everything I wanted' to know by tonight I emphatically do not. When 'I get around' to revising for my Pol 4 will it be 'easy'? When my DoS told me I should work harder 'He was really saying something' but I just didn't 'think'. Now though I've got 'nowhere to run'. I suppose 'there are worse things I could do' and at least I'm not 'uptight' about my revision etc. I know as soon as I finish my exams there'll be a 'heatwave' and I'll be 'dancing in the street' or on the Backs at any rate where we'll all feel 'the warmth of the sun'. If it rains though I hope I find 'shelter from the storm'.

The Bumps at least will go well and we'll earn lots of 'respect' even if my exams will be 'better best forgotten'. It's not a 'tragedy' after all though I'm not sure my nuclear dropout excuse will hold much 'sway' with the dean's committee.

Then there will be the dinner (which will be on a 'saturday night'). We'll all 'walk right back' to the WPR where 'one of us' at least will find 'everlasting love' and we'll all enjoy lots of funky tunes. Hopefully there'll be no 'murder on the dance floor' but if the guys take their shirts off it's a distinct possibility. I think we'll all say 'thank you for the music' to Dan before going to bed.

ALL the obvious tracks? I suspect not.

I'm sure you've thought of the novice cheese - Macarena, anything by Steps, Saturday night, Tubthumping etc. But do you have:

Guaglione - Perez Prado and his Orchestra
Hip to be square - Huey Lewis and the News
Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners.
Concrete & Clay - Unit 4 plus 2
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison
The Reflex - Duran Duran
Mony Mony - Billy Idol (I hope you don't have this, it's an awful song)
Sex Bomb - Tom Jones and Mousse T
The First, the last, my everything - Barry White
The Queen of 1964 - Neil Sedaka?

Well, maybe not the last one (but very funny lyrics).

And in the 'not cheese' category, can we have Free from desire - Gala (more and mooooore) and Old before I die - Robbie Williams. Some people might call these cheese I suppose, but it's about as non-cheese as I go.
