WAP?
The electronic flag on the CUCBC website may well override/replace the physical flag at Goldie in the near future. It'll be accessible by internet or WAP. Given that the internet isn't yet available in the boat house, will we still be able to find out what colour the flag is?
I have a WAP phone and I'm not afraid to use it!  40%
I think I have a WAP phone but I don't know how it works  26%
No, my phone definitely doesn't have WAP  17%

No bumps-themed poll? I'm disappointed. :(
by Amelia - Sun 26th Feb 2006, 6:24pm
In fact, looking back through the archives, since the poll has been running, this is only the second time that there has been no bumps poll in the run up to Lents/Mays. :(

Yeah, me too. Although Bumpit does replace it to some extent.

That means we won't be able to go out in yellow-flag weather saying, "there was no flag up" anymore, which could be annoying.

I want to do a best-ever t-shirt slogan poll sometime soon... please let me have some nominations (with crew/year as well). Thanks. Might have to do it in two categories for Trinity and elsewhere.

'WAPTF' is truly inspired.

"They may be the first viii, but we have by far the larger cox"

Unfortunately never came to be, because the coxes got swapped. :(

Surely nothing can ever beat 'I'd rather shit my own pants than row for Maggie.'

Of course you can, you just say your phone doesn't do WAP (and you start saving for the fines now). Honestly, I don't know why people don't do this more - CUCBC never bans anyone.

Yeah but that's only training, not racing. Training can be done on other rivers without anyone knowing. I've never known anyone be banned from the Bumps (apart from those who expressly said they didn't want to enter anyway).

Best front-of-t-shirt slogan is clearly from Fairbairns '98, as it says unequivocally what all the other slogans are trying to suggest... "We Are Better Than You". The back of the same t-shirt was also great.

"do I make you look fat in this?"
sadly never came to be, as none of us had any money left to get it printed.
by rjn - Mon 27th Feb 2006, 1:04pm
there was some 6th mens viii or similar who had:

Nice pussy cat on the front of the shirt
and then BEAST on the back.

Now - that was a cool shirt

4th Men's VIII 1998, unless my memory is going. Which it probably is. Maybe Will Thorne can confirm that?

In lieu of Will - yes Mike, I can confirm that your memory is going.

The Beer Boat, Mays 2001:

Front: "Rowing is much like making love to a beautiful woman..."
Back: "We're not very good at either"

Another one I liked was by M2 in the Lents that year who had a massive cat (no buns) with "RROOAARGHHH!" underneath. There was almost as much discussion on the spelling as there was training. Pity I can't remember what we decided.

The Importance of Being Martin Peck. That was a great t-shirt.
by rjn - Tue 28th Feb 2006, 12:41am
it was just Being Martin Peck - there was no importance in there. Memory also failing... or is it the hangover, hmmm.

Sadly not such a good photo of that one.

Amelia's non-boatie athletics t-shirt had an awesome slogan too. Something like "we've trained ours off so we can whip yours"

Good try (and well remembered!) - it was actually "we've worked ours off so we can kick yours". Which we did. :D

Although it's not a crew t-shirt, I really like one of the ones I got in Boston which has really small writing on the back that says "if you can read this you're rushing your slide".
by Slide rusher - Tue 28th Feb 2006, 12:33pm
In response to the t-shirt above, one of my favourite:
"time on the slide is time wasted"

Mike, your memory is indeed failing: Fairburns '99. Did actually get into a bit of trouble outside of rowing with that, in addition to the "nice pussycat" always having an arm/fold covering the "cat" in photos etc.....

My vote for the best is the tight (they bought large child-size) BEAT ME tops.

How about the "best t-shirt that never was"? Phil brought up a good point on the "The only thing we don't break is records" idea from a few years back....

Or - the best design on a t-shirt.
The Being Martin Peck t-shirt being a contender, along with those chess heads...

Not a t-shirt, but the most recent club underwear with "nice pussy" (with a cat'n'buns) and "nice buns". Inspired. :)

Yes there was. Novice women 1999.

Front: Nice Buns.
Back: In out, In out and we row too.

Can't believe quite how blatent the sexual inneuendo was there...
