The Lent term kit order is now available online, log in and go to Members->Kit order to see what's on offer and place your order. Cheques payable to 'First and Third Kit and Social Account' to my pigeon hole (A.Russell, in the Angel Court mail room) as soon as possible please, and no later than the end of January. No money = no kit!

Michaelmas term began very positively with JPMorgan approaching us with an offer of sponsorship. An offer gladly taken. The senior squads started training in fours in preparation for the University Fours regatta- with excellent results: victories in the women's 4+ and the Light IV (men's 4-) categories. As the focus shifted towards the Fairbairn Cup, the squads moved into VIIIs, participating in the Autumn Head (men only- coming first in the VIII and the 2nd IV) and the Winter Head (men came 2nd in the VIII, women did badly coming 10th!). All our ardour and our coaches' involvement paid off: The 1st VIIIs both came 3rd in the Fairbairns and the women's 1st IV beat a very strong field to the Fairbairn IV's Cup. BPBC, as expected, made a strong Fairbairns appearance, with BPBC M1 defending the Inivitational title... yet again! Well done to all involed... a great warm up for Lents...! Our LBCs did an excellent job recruiting the finest of this year's freshers intake into our novice squads. All crews showed great promise in the Fairbairns, with the women's 1st VIII coming 7th after not qualifying for the Queen's Ergs final and the 1st and 2nd men beating BPBC II/ Fat W1 and Fat W2 in Senior Fairbairns respectively. Well done to all the novices for getting involved with the sport. We hope you had a good term and return to row at senior level next term! A great thank you to our coaches for self-sacrificing (and hopefully continuing) efforts, especially Iain, Henry and Russ! And JPMorgan for sponsorship and encouragement. Dan Darley and Rich Dewire have broken the Concept II world record for 1,000,000m on an indoor rowing machine! They finished at 10:32 a.m. this morning with a total time of 3 days 17 minutes - an incredible achievement and breaking the previous record by 4 hours 31 seconds. They have rowed alternately since 10:15 Sunday morning, swapping every 1 to 2 hours and catching whatever sleep and rest they could between turns. The record attempt has also helped to raise the profile of their entry in the Atlantic Rowing Race, beginning later this month, the 2003 winners of which were the previous 1,000,000m record holders. The Captains and Committee of First and Third Trinity BC are proud to announce that, as of today, the Club will be sponsored by JPMorgan. The Committee are looking forward to working closely and successfully with our new sponsors. We are currently organising an event to celebrate our partnership, at which Club members will have the opportunity to meet with JPMorgan representatives. 5pm-10pm ATBH. Burgers, bacon rolls, veggie burgers (first one free, £1 thereafter). A selection of delectable cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Tickets free for freshers, £5 for seniors on the door, £4 in advance (available until Friday lunchtime, email kss@firstandthird.org); this gets you cocktails and a free burger/bacon roll. 18th Sep '05	Iain wins FISA Masters	by ELT
First and Third's boatman Iain Law won two events at the FISA World Masters Regatta in Strathclyde Park this weekend - the men's (B) 1x and (B) 2x categories, rowing for Laich o' Menteith BC. With an eight-lane course available, the regatta can accommodate a very large number of entries from around the world; there were 60 entries in the MB2x and 80 in the MB1x category. An impressive achievement!

In the Silver Goblets and Nickalls' Challenge Cup, Tom Rose and his partner Tom Dyson, rowing for Cambridge University Lightweight RC were unlucky to be drawn against the Danish pair, B.B. Helleberg & T. Ebert. This pair had recently won the Lightweight men's pairs at the Eton World Cup, and Ebert is a reigning Olympic champion and was ranked by FISA as one of the world's top ten rowers in 2004. The race merited a mention in the Daily Telegraph. The two Toms are now focusing on the lightweight category at the National Championships and we all wish them every success there. Jon Davies stroked a Rob Roy BC four in the Wyfold Challenge Cup, but was beaten in the first round. Steph Richards, who won the Ladies' Plate with Leander Club in 2004, was again coxing their Ladies' Plate entry. After beating crews from Sweden and Ireland, the crew raced Cambridge University BC in the final. They were unable to match a crew consisting primarily of this year's Goldie colours, which won by one and three quarter lengths. Cambridge University Women's BC, featuring Alla failed to qualifer for the Remenham Cup. First and Third withdrew its entry from the Temple Challenge Cup, an event for which no Cambridge College crews qualified. The only Cambridge College represented in the regatta was Clare BC who lost in the first round of the Men's Student Coxed Fours. [Very many thanks to Simon for this summary.] (1 reply...)

Finally... this year's superb second VIII song is here. I have also finished uploading my photo collection from the last day of the Mays. These include entertaining pictures of Downing beached after being bumped by the grads. Also in general I tried to include a sense of just how many people there were on the banks watching. The atmosphere was amazing.

The Cambridge Channel Challenge sponsored by Deloitte, a charity race. This summer First and Third are competing in The Cambridge Channel Challenge: a rowing race between half-a-dozen boats from colleges of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge aiming to support the charities Cancer Research UK and the University Sports Complex. It will take place after the 19th June dependant upon favourable weather conditions. The inaugural Cambridge Channel Challenge was launched in December 2004 and is organised by members of the Lady Margeret Boat Club of St. John's College, Cambridge. The race will start at Shakespeare Beach in Dover and will finish when the first rower steps onto French sand, after more than 5 hours of intense rowing. The English Channel separates England from Europe by 21 miles and is well known for being one of the world's most challenging stretches of water for ocean rowers. The row will be tough: side by side racing for over five hours in variable conditions- it will make any Cam based race look like a gentle Sunday afternoon paddle! This will also be a two fold Guinness world record attempt, for the fastest time and for the greatest number of crews competing. In order to make this event as successful as possible, we need your help. The aim is to make as much money as possible for the chosen charities and in order to acheive this, we need you!
