2nd men's VIII, 1st division

2nd college VIII, fastest 2nd VIII
Time: 13:33
Spaktastic in the sun! Catches a bit limp on the first run and just plain slow in the second, but good commitment and some excellent tanning. Seemed to go pretty fast and the wind for the second finish actually saw us touching 36. (Dan)
First leg was a bit tense but the second felt more relaxed and as a consequence we achieved a higher rate in conjunction with a longer stroke.

Pleased with this result, good to see us more than competitive in the first division. As Dan says the rowing still isn't pretty but its starting to come together and there were patches (especially in the second leg) where we were moving very nicely. This crew has already made big improvements and i think we're all confident there's more to come. Cheers lads. (Emma)
Fairly pleasing row and result (despite the dodgy wheezing coming from the engine for most of the first piece). But there's still more to come if we're to achieve what I think should be our goals for the term:

1. Become one of the ~5 fastest crews around.
2. Absolutely, without a doubt, guarantee that next year's 2nd May VIII get spoons.

I know, I know... we've been saying number 2 for years now ;-) (Albert)
I'm starting to believe it is actually going to happen.

Thats a solid result, but it won't be enough come bumps. Theres more to be found in all parts of the stroke and we'll get there. And its going to be fast. (Will L)

3rd men's VIII, 3rd division

17th college VIII, 2nd fastest 3rd VIII
Time: 15:08
Ok so a last minute crew changes involving the strokeman probably didn't help. We tried rate 30 on the first run but kept letting it slip to 28. A wind to the finish produced a massive change in boat speed, which shows either technique or power was definitely lacking during the middle third, my bet is on a bit of both. As Florian pointed out we were losing a lot of length at the catch.

The second half was better. When the catches went in together we really moved some boat and it felt a lot more stable and relaxed. Unfortunately this only happend about 3 times for 10 strokes at a time. Especially on the reach with Maggie 3 bearing down on us having caught up about 3 to 4 lengths there were some very good patches where we moved away from them and some very bad patches where they were gaining massively.

So we know we can go fast. We just have some technique issues to tweak and then put some power down together.

Weather was awesome, I do however have a headache from the sun despite having had 4l of water to drink today.

Overall not a bad result, 4s faster would have gotten us pots though. We were 16s slower than Churchill 2 (4 ahead in Bumps) and 38s slower than Christs 2 (4 behind in Bumps). None of the other boats around us entered. (S.C. Mertes)
A good row. I am pleased with the improvement we are making and it was visible in the race today as well. The way up was lacking length but we did work on this on the way back and I was very proud of you guys for those pushes on the reach that kept LMBC off.
We have still a lot of work ahead of us but today's race showed us that we have potential to be damn fast if keep the focus all the way through.

PS. Thanks Sarah and Florian for bankpartying and their advice!!! (Sonya)

1st women's VIII, 1st division

6th college VIII, 5th fastest 1st VIII
Time: 15:57
Came in 9s behind Girton. That means we need to find 9s this week. (Harriet)
Solid and committed; as always, a pleasure to watch!

For some reason the photos came out in the wrong order, they should have been in a nice moving sequence...perhaps someone clever could fix that? (Mark)

1. Cox + Stern 4
2. Bow 7 catches
3. Bow 5

CFC in a single scull, Novice 1x

Only rower in division
Time: 20:50
Well, I didn't get passed (oh, right. I started last in the division), and I stuck to the plan. Rated 29-30 downstream, kept it strong and didn't try to catch up to the massive junior sculler who was ahead of me. Upstream, rated 30-31 and steered my best line yet. Except for almost hitting the tree at grassy corner because I took it a bit close. Took it up for the finish, gave a good growl at the end, and am feeling pretty good. Not bad for a couple weeks' training.

If Christian had paid any attention, he'd realise there was no one else in my division. He'll also find his math is wrong... or he's calling me a man. (Cynthia)
Only 2 minutes 20 behind the next person in her division. (S.C. Mertes)
