Virtual "betting" (no real money involved) on the world cup - including on the outcomes of games while they are in progress. Anyone planning on working on a city trading desk can practice their skills here...

NB 1st & 3rd in no way condones gambling.

This looks awesome although probably necessitates hours of time each day to be any good. I suspect a superfast Net connection is essential as well.
Well that seems to be a double fit with being a student. Come on guys, surely the satisfaction of beating a Bank of England employee is enough incentive.

Btw, I'm doing a 2k on Saturday morning. Regular viewers who know my form (both recent and historical) are invited to spread bet on my time...

Or perhaps, to allow breakfast to go down, you'll wait until 09:30?

Simon said: I'm not tempting fate by specifying... again, closest guess wins. OK. I'll guess a slowish time for you, as you have been suffering from injuries recently. 6:41.5.

that would be slower than me, so be careful

So all Simon needs to do is rate at something like 60 strokes per minute, and he'll break the world record. Smart!where r is the rating

Mike said: So all Simon needs to do is rate at something like 60 strokes per minute, and he'll break the world record. Smart! Unfortunately, if he goes off too fast, he could reach 88mph and end up with a negative value of r.

But this implies that an arms only 2k is likely to be much faster than one at full slide. Simon, have you been doing lots of beach weights recently while your knee's been injured?where r is the rating

Missing maths said: where r is the rating OK, I forgot to define my parameters: It should have read:
"...where r is the rating at full slide" I challenge someone (over 5 foot tall) to rate 60 at full slide for 2k.

I challenge someone (over 5 foot tall) to rate 60 at full slide for 2k. Easy, so long as the 2k can be done in a sufficiently long series of instalments.

ccsi2 said: I challenge someone (over 5 foot tall) to rate 60 at full slide for 2k. I've already done it. Put a splash top over the fan. It should take you in the region of 3:30 - 4:00 to do 2k, and you'll rate about 75.

Sarah said: 6:36.2 Lots of winners here.
Sarah gets the prize for the closest guess - I did 6:36.9 (ow!) (and have just realised that that's the first 2k I've done for 19 months). Chris' maths is quite good as well - I rated, on average, 28 - so he's 3.1 seconds out. And Graham wins as well - I did allow breakfast to go down, and started at about 9:35am. You all win the right to get a brand new five pound note for the knock down price of 4.99!
