I can't believe the Maggie scum (?) have painted over the motorway bridge! I haven't been to Cam for ages so admittedly it may have happened some time ago... :)

Still, it reminds me of what a great effort it was to get it painted in the first place. Perhaps it's time for an account of the FATASS project on a member's only part of the website?

Has anyone complained to CUCBC? When the villagers of Milton complained about the paint in 2000, the suggestion was that any club who painted anything thereafter would be looking at serious problems with the University authorities.

I totally disagree with banning the painting of the bridges, so I hope no one has complained. However I have to say that you can see why people would complain about this sort of attempt.

Oh yeah, so do I. My point is that it has been formally banned and so if they're not going to enforce it then it would be nice if some sort artistic people went and tidied up all of the other river furniture which now looks terrible because all the paint is slowly peeling off.

Absolutely; and surely such a poor attempt at bridge painting could also needs to be rectified. Perhaps 'Back how it belongs' would be a better slogan?

I was pretty gutted to see it as I cycled round 1st Post, but then it has been there for 8 years which isn't bad, and nothing lasts forever... I'm just a little baffled by the circumstances - 1. I thought the road bridge was always for Lents crews (?) 2. It's halfway through bumps - ie no-one has anything to celebrate yet

Man, that has really upset me. Maybe I'm still a little too emotionally invested in the club here but hey. Idiots. Wouldn't be surprised if people complain, that looks awful.

Unfortunately you've been misinformed... No one ever had any right to any particular piece of furniture. And on 2 - in the past, the posts would change colour several times in bumps week, generally starting around the weekend before. It used to be one of the nice things in the run up to Mays - on the Monday and Tuesday they would cut all the grass and all of the posts would be freshly painted... It was like rowing through one of those photos you get in the paper on the eve of Wimbledon showing the groundsman making the final preparations to the courts. The point being that painting wasn't just for celebration or for merit, but also a nice thing to do to show support for the club.
