No, winning is really boring. honest.

Take it back Dan number 2 (or even 3). If not I shall also submit the 'favourite motorway' poll so that it's sure to come up next week...

Sam's poll (which I dutifully copied) was way better, it better win next week.

I'm a fan of the motorway poll, although perhaps it is more of a non-term-time one.

Unfortunately for you this is supposedly a boat club .

If you do get bored of the pretty black things that float in the water, check out http://www.cbrd.co.uk/motorway/.

That's an awesome website! I like the effort someone has gone to in the descriptions to make motorways seem fun - apparently the M1 does everything but make the tea... I don't even know what that means. I want the motorway poll.

Fortunately for you it's so much more.

I think we still have a way to go to beat the simulator http://www.cbrd.co.uk/sim/, for all those people who just don't have the spare time to go and drive around some of the nation's most exciting features, Motorways!
by BJ - Tue 29th May 2007, 8:10pm
Importantly, the motorways database has highlighted some missing options from the motorways poll.
by Why isn't the motorway bridge on your poll? - Tue 29th May 2007, 8:33pm
We row in order to...

...appreciate the motorway bridge, which isn't actually a motorway at all, it's the A14.

It's a shame you can't turn off when you go past a junction with one of the other simulated roads. Still, a very nice feature for those of us who haven't seen a British road sign for a while....

Let me know which and I'll add them.
As it seems to have caused so much discussion, here is the background to the motorways poll. I originally posted it in a week where no other polls had been posted by Friday. Tom then e-mailed me some suggestions so I improved it, and as I knew Tom liked it I decided to keep resubmitting it. I agree that if there are rowing matters to be discussed then it should wait until they've been considered, or until the holidays.
It came about because I was driving back from racing in Liverpool last bank holiday and was thinking that the M40 was the business. Not many exits, nice and fast, hardly any traffic even on a bank holiday, plus that cool cutting which is in the start of the Vicar of Dibley. However, it has a fatal, horrible, flaw: it goes near Oxford. Luckily it has the good sense to by-pass Oxford by a significant distance but it's still the road you take if you want to go to Oxford, and this ruins it for me.
This, plus the previous "favouite test" poll made me think of the poll in question.

The ones beginning with A and the Northern Irish ones - luckily you now have Martin's list to help you!
by i hate the M40 - Wed 30th May 2007, 10:09am
you gotta be kidding me: the M40 from Northampton to London is attrocious. Delays, delays, the cr8p junction with the A34, staggering into london. On a sunday night EVERYONE is trying to get into london.

The only good things about it are the circling kites (birds) above and the proximity to my home and oxford. the service station above oxford is quite nice according to the Daily Telegraph

I became a bit of a fan of the M6 toll the other day. Okay, you have to pay £4 to use it, but given that only about 4 other people do the same, it's pretty much empty, and judging by the speeds that some cars were doing, its entirely bereft of cameras or police. Whoosh!

There we go. Clear need for a poll.

I am not adding ones which begin with A or the Northern Irish ones. Got to draw the line somewhere.

to prove my point: there was a queue so long today round junction 3 that people were getting out and making friends...

Yeah, agree with Rich there. Been an M6Toll fan for a while now!

Top speed anyone? 110mph southbound in a Ford Mondeo.

Given how competitive your average FaT member is, I'm not sure this competition is such a good idea.

Expect an entry from me soon.

Haven't been on the M6 toll, but I've had my Corsa up above 115mph before ...

My Yaris has been up in the 100-teens before. It has a 1 litre engine. I am clearly missing my vocation here as a lawyer.

My fave motorway is the M4 - fyi.
by Simon - Fri 1st Jun 2007, 11:32am
Ford Ka, 100-and-something mph, with two kayaks on the roof rack.

Vaguely related: I went to the Lola boat factory the other day, and some of the roads round there are fantastic. Dead straight and flat for a couple of miles, then a 90 degree bend at the end. How more people don't die I do not know.
by sam - Fri 1st Jun 2007, 4:16pm
Well if its straight and flat, it should be pretty obvious that you're running out of road...

Yea, but slowing down to see what comes next would be cheating.
by Soixante-neuf - Tue 5th Jun 2007, 9:43pm
Simon, please could we see the M69 listed in its own right in your prospective poll? It's a perfectly good motorway in its own right and doesn't deserve to be lumped together with the M1. And it also has the best name, clearly.
by BJ - Wed 6th Jun 2007, 5:40am
Are poll-fixing cartels a new feature of the website or have they always been around?
by Simon - Wed 6th Jun 2007, 9:22am

Done.
But can we have the other poll this week (but with a RoN option as well)? As it would suggest a recast of the incest chart is about to happen, and my vote for RoN would finally get me off the thing.
by Head Honcho - Sun 10th Jun 2007, 9:45am
The smaller poll fixing cartel failed in its mission last week, so its numbers increased for this.

The choice is entirely down to you... all it takes if the withdrawal your poll and your wish will be fulfilled :)
