Isn't this missing the 'actually isn't going to row' option, hence why no one seems to be voting?

But John often says that and often still ends up in the crew, so we (Graham and I, after a few beers) thought we'd plan ahead.

It's not meant to be part of a boat... it's the four seat, just that it would be "ironic" (in an Alanis Morrisette style) if John was at 4 as he's unlkely to be the biggest/heaviest person in the crew.

Perhaps it could be a race tactic - many novice boats would go just as fast attempting an ironic four as a power ten...
