Will JPD ever be forced to take the same action?

At first sight it looks incredible. But actually, thinking about FaT, I have never formally promised that the scripts I've written are owned by the club. I too feel that it would be within my right to go off in a huff and take them all with me. Perhaps some sort of contract is needed with webmasters to grant ownership of copyright of their work to the club (like there is when you work for a living)? Should there be something in FaT's constitution?!

Apparently the OURCs dispute is something to do with some paid work/consultancy on that website. So it appears one solution is to never pay Martin!!!

ignorant said: what actually was said? Essentially the former webmaster asked the current committee to stop using certain files which he had written which were the "behind the scenes" part of the site. More details here

they're trying to change the constitution so that when the committee members leave their post they leave behind both physical and intellectual property. (I can't say i've ever taken any intellectual property with me anywhere...)

More astonishing is that a look at their relaunched website suggests that they are going to have a sabbatical Hon Sec! Unbelievable... what a waste of money. That said, if someone had offered the same job in Cambridge to me, I wouldn't have said no. However given that CUSU doesn't even have a dedicated sports officer on its part-time staff (let alone on its sabatical staff), I would rather see them spend money on that first.

I was vvv suprised to discover that oxford have one sab and three full-time staff in the sport's federation which overseas sport in oxford. And a decent sports centre. Cambridge really could do with one. Though the idea of being OURCs sab is not good. they're a bunch of losers

on a similar note: are there any sports where oxford or cambridge are consistently better than the other? if so, why?

question said: on a similar note: are there any sports where oxford or cambridge are consistently better than the other? Well, looking at my own sport, golf, reveals that, although the Blues are much closer, the Cambridge 2nd team has won nearly double the number of Varsity matches that the Oxford 2nd team have. Until 1994, it was actually more than double. The form books are saying that there's a good chance of Cambridge adding another win on Wednesday - although nothing's certain, obviously.if so, why?

But of course, there's no real reason why Cambridge should be doing much better than Oxford on the whole. I suppose coaching and facilities are the main things that could make a difference

question said: on a similar note: are there any sports where oxford or cambridge are consistently better than the other? um.. cambridge are always _better_ than oxford. Everyone knows that. They may not always win, but that's largely irrelevant ;Pif so, why? on a more useful note, I seem to remember the swimming/water polo people reckoning they'd won quite a few more varsity matches than the filth, but I don't know if there's any truth in that. How am I this bored?

Last weekend, Cambridge won their first mens lacrosse varsity match since 1992. I reckon those 12 intervening years count as dominance. I asked a friend who plays for Oxford about it; he claimed that Oxford tend to be better because there are always a handful American postgraduates there who are very strong players, having grown up in the northeastern US where lacrosse is a popular sport. Since that description applies to him, I think his reason is plausible. (I can also vouch that Oxford is a more popular destination for the Harvard-Yale-Princeton types than is Cambridge.)

Richard said: The form books are saying that there's a good chance of Cambridge adding another win on Wednesday - although nothing's certain, obviously. Well, in case anyone is wondering,The score for the 2nd team Varsity Match was Cambridge 10, Oxford 5 Dominance!! That brings the total to 31 wins for Cambridge, 17 for Oxford, with 7 draws (since 1951). Unfortunately, the Blues had a bit of a shocker today and lost from a leading position by the narrowest of margins, bringing their total to 62 wins for Cambridge, 48 for Oxford with 6 draws (since 1878) |
