W1's race was slightly more chaotic than planned with slight issues sourcing rowers due to a combination of injury and lacking an 8th rower. Believing that this was sorted by a combination of Hannah who was in Cambridge conveniently and Qingyue, W1 settled in for the night only to wake up to the news that unfortunately Hannah was ill so once again we were missing a rower.
We walked over to the boat house assuming that we would be scratching however Máté agreed (forced by Polly) to cycle over and race with us which absolutely saved the day!
One chaotic row up to the start ensued at that point as we were a tad late pushing off. The first 2k was a very solid race with a strong tailwind and stream that helped the splits slightly but a huge effort all round. The second race showed an incredible effort to hold off Jesus M3 behind us around the corners to avoid conceding the racing line and some really solid rowing from all involved.
Overall a really strong race with some amazing all 8 square blades calls from Alex on the row home and some less amazing full slide pauses that will not be repeated.
