Having just started rowing in a new post-BUSA lineup, and still without a set crew, this race was more about getting in a good long head piece and bringing the rhythm together than it was about pushing any boundaries.

The first leg was surprisingly good in terms of basic rhythm, which came together a lot more nicely than it had in the previous few days even at the higher rating. However, we struggled to bring our pushes solidly together and took longer than necessary to overtake (on the outside of Grassy!)

The second leg started reasonably well but we never quite found the same comfortable rhythm we had had in the first piece. However, we did respond to lifts more cohesively and coped reasonably well with the headwind.

It was a pleasing addendum to win pots for the row, but the small margin to the following crew (Newnham) suggests that we need to raise our game in the coming weeks. Luckily, there is a lot of potential to do that :o)

We won pots!!! Best row of term (by a very long way) - now we know we can do it, hopefully all our outings will be miles better.
We were awesome!!! (Rachel)
Fresh from beating Maggie W2 at their own erg game, we were happy to see that we were starting behind them so could look forward to the inevitable overtaking. We started off well and found the rhythm that we have been looking for since about Lents. There were good, solid pushes into, round and out of Ditton which closed the gap on Maggie, and we passed them on Grassy, giving us the much needed boost to take us to the finish.

The way back started well, this time chasing Darwin. The rhythm was there again, and the power in the water, but Darwin were not going to give in easily. After some blade clashing (surely they are supposed to concede the racing line?!) we eventually passed them after the railway bridge and managed to finish despite panicking and rushing. We knew we deserved to win, so it was nice to be rewarded with pots. However, there is still lots to work on if we want to keep Bumps as short as possible... (Harriet)
From the bank this looked like a pretty solid and committed row. There were some wobbles in the first leg and a bit of panic crept in during the overtake on LMBC which threw the rhythm off slightly. However, the second leg looked a good deal more controlled, especially while overtaking Darwin, and it was great to see you start to sit up and walk away from them once you'd taken a few seats. Good racing.

The next fastest W2 crew were over a minute and a half behind :o) (Erica)
