Cambridge Autumn Regatta, Summer 2006

Thompson/Cunha (Mixed Novice 2x)

Semi finals
Beat Northampton by quite a long way
Our first win in any round of any sculling race!

Northampton were ok, but considerably less powerful than us and of course we had the advantage of home water. They went up slightly off the start, but we pulled back to about a length advantage by the corner in the Reach, and were still moving away as they crashed about 50m short of the finish. The result would probably have been 2 or 3 lengths if they had not done so. We were hoping the the City crew we would meet in the final might be one we had seen out earlier in the week... (Erica)
Final
Lost to City by 4 lengths
...but unfortunately, the crew we raced later in the afternoon were rather better than the one seen last week. They turned up looking very competent, in a boat with GBR plastered on the side. We did not rate our chances very highly...

We were also drawn on the towpath side, meaning that we were racing "on the wrong side" - a course we hadn't practiced! Accordingly we moved quickly into the opposite lane behind the bemused City crew, and proceeded down the course as before. They then took the sensible route down the Reach, swapping into our (inside) lane to finish several lengths up and worthy winners.

At least we got two races for our money this time ;o) (Erica)
