2nd May VIII Song 2000
Maybe we're just a boat of perfectionists (Taylor/Fletcher)
To the tune of Battle song of the Republic (i.e. first line of chorus: Glory, Glory Alleluila and numerous playground alterations)
We went away to Bedford, and we won the college plate
Though we'd like to take the credit, it was mainly down to fate
Many thanks to Pembroke A for having to rush home
'Cos when we made it to the final, we found we were alone
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
We're always on the lookout for a free pot or a plate
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
Though we don't win many races, we never turn up late
We put a four together, for a sprint upon the Cam
But then we drew the light four, and all our hopes were damned
Thankfully, a little dog, thought to have a bath
And jumped into the river, straight in the light four's path
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
We're always on the lookout for a free pot or a plate
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
Though we don't row all that quickly, we think that dogs are great
The first eight decided not to row, the regatta of the nines
Athlete's foot, an itchy back, or something along those lines
Then Tit Hall got in a huff, and scurried back to base
And we won the first division plate, not winning a single race
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
We're always on the lookout for a free pot or a plate
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
If the other crew fails to show, we don't mind the wait
But when the bumps arrived we were greeted with bad news
We weren't the only ones there were lots of other crews
We rowed like utter demons, and what a sight to see
But it went a little pair-shaped and we ended up down three
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
We're always on the lookout for a free pint or a pot
We're the Second May Eight
We're the Second May Eight
Though we may lack rowing skills , we make the most of what we've
got
