Nope... it's in Hampshire in at least two pieces in a shed somewhere, possibly being slowly repaired (perhaps Lilie can confirm its exact state when she returns from Henley after beating Oxford again! touch wood, and all that)

But if the argument was about whether such boats could have survived this long, I would say it would probably still be in use had it not met with a sticky end (of a barge).

She wasn't.

She'd been dumped outside Catz boathouse since at least 2003 - possibly longer - gradually getting more and bigger holes.

Aha, I see. So does this mean that said boat is still on the shelves and in use?

[Enquiry stems from a recent conversation in the Galapagos Islands with a former crewmate from a Karlisch crew....]

The previous time this happened I think it went to Tit Hall's boatman to be fixed.
Think you might also have been looking for this.
The tit hall boatman rebuilt the bows beautifully ready for the SuperGents in May term but it cost a fortune.

I think this is the one that was crashed rather spectacularly into a barge opposite the boat house on a chilly morning about two years ago. The bows were written off, the barge unhurt, and the many other crews on the river very well entertained by the spectacle of FaT M1 sinking at 7.30am.

The boat itself is now with Lilie's dad, who is attempting to repair the damage as it was deemed uneconomic to send it back to the manufacturers for repairs.

Ah, Fair Maid.... my first ever outing in 1990 was in her (unhappy about syntax here).

Am staggered that she was still on the shelves. Generally, I'm against putting more CO2 into the atmosphere, but I'd regard FMoK as a worthy exception.

Certainly suspect that she will have crackled a bit.

Was reminded of this issue from recent work in Rouen, where one of the older VIIIs at the local RC is entitled Jeanne d'Arc. (Fisher G, please refrain from in-Seine joke, or related others). I can't think of a more fitting craft to torch...

Can anyone enlighten me as to just which rotting old heap of wood was torched by way of celebration? Are we yet into the realm of boat meltings rather than burnings?

And one other thing.... whatever did happen to the Karlisch?
Mark - the Fair Maid of Kent was burnt earlier this month for the Headship. Not quite sure what current state of the Karlisch is though - think we still have it?
