this one photo says so much, in particular why they changed crew order for days 2,3 and 4

Well, Martin Watton (2) was unavailable on Friday - so we parachuted our coach, Jo Grundy, into the 4 seat, and I moved forward one place, and Chris D moved from 6 to 2.

I had turned down stroking it earlier in term - but we put a backup plan into action on Saturday. We went out looking for the overbump. Got to about 2 lengths.

In the end, the real "crime" was getting bumped by Downing on day 1. We really should have hit Maggie for the 3rd VIII headship - we were faster than them.

It's interesting that this boat contained 2 people who are now the Lents Headship holders - and a further 2 people who later rowed in boats in the 1st division of the Mays (and I'm not sure what our cox's record was - as we borrowed her from Pembroke - would have been ironic if we had have got the overbump on Pembroke II on the last night.)

Oh, and when Jo was subbing, we had someone else who has rowed-over head (and former lightweight-blue president).

Hhhmmmm, that photo has always been quite embarrasing. Thanks for drawing attention to it Martin! In defence of the crew, that does appear to be the 2nd stroke on the 1st day, and we really weren't quite as bad as it makes out. At least most of strokeside seem to be doing alright....

... what a heavy night at Cindy's does for your catch timing! (Check out the race report)

The crew change was clearly inspired by this picture... caption says it all really! ;-)

I think I was probably, in hindsight, a bit harsh with the race report. I don't think the performance had much to do with Henry's night out. I was probably frustrated - it was my 5th consecutive bump down. :-(

It actually looks like Henry has fallen asleep in that photo, thereby demonstrating the validity of the 2001 2nd May VIII's song lyrics.
