American Pie is the only comedy?

Sorry I don't mean to imply Mike's answer is correct... I'm saying the correct answer is not tenuous.

Yes but the Godfather is the only mob movie

RTT said: Indiana Jones is the only one where the films were not released in chronological order (from the point of view of the main character, before anyone questions the BttF ones)?
This is actually a pretty good one, but given the issues with time in both BttF and Kill Bill, I think my answer is cleaner..

Star Wars is the only one based on real events (even if they were a long time ago, not to mention in a galaxy far, far away)?

Lord of the Rings is the only one to be directed by a non-American? I haven't checked this out though, so I may well be wrong...

Not sure about that, you may be right.. but you're very close to an easier to check answer

To do with the director, or to do with non-Americanness?

The original Star Wars trilogy did not have one consistent director across its component films.

Neither did American Pie (Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz; James B. Rogers; Jesse Dylan).

I thought I was close in suggesting that all of the directors (except for one) also have writing credits. But none of the Indiana Jones or American Pie movies have writing credits for their directors. I get the feeling it's something simpler than that anyway...

Star Wars is the only one to have had the music performed by a choir of FaT bottle blowers in a Canadian University?

That was the next one I was going to try when I realised my answer was wrong!

D'oh! It's not even the case that only one of them was directed by a pair of brothers (Wachowskis did The Matrix, Weitzs did American Pie), although Chris Weitz is listed as uncredited on IMDb, so perhaps you can say The Matrix was the only one where a pair of brothers was credited for directing.

There. Not at all tenuous...

How about the Godfather, as the only one without significant original music composed for the movie.

Or as the only one to credit someone from the 17th century

Or Kill Bill for that matter?
