I'm guessing that stroke was a one-off. The same couldn't be said for Christ's (who came last).

I suspect that Ellen has just completed one of her trademark "scoping manoeuvres" which are used to ensure that we aren't about to hit anyone. These are employed particularly in buoyed regattas and head races on straight courses, and generally not used when having outings on the Ouse, as clearly the former is far more dangerous and likely to result in collision.
