1st men's VIII, 1st division

1st round
Lost to Girton M1 by 4 ft
Maybe complacency played a part in this, maybe it didn't. In any case, Girton started strongly and had gone clear after a few hundred metres. Unused to being in this situation, we reacted by taking the rate inappropriately high in an attempt to quickly take the deficit back. The rowing couldn't really cope with this, and in spite of an attempt by the Girton cox to give us the race by crossing onto our station under the railway bridge and nearly clashing blades, we were still most of a length down with only 30 strokes remaining. When they moved back onto their side to give us clear water/we had a coordinated push off the railway bridge/their frontloaded raceplan started to catch up with them, we started moving on them with some speed. However, the finish line came just in time for Girton and we finished slightly down, magnified by some odd Pembroke judging to 4 feet. A disappointing result for the crew. (Peter)

2nd men's VIII, 2nd division

1st round
Lost to LMBC M2 by a Canvas
A nervy but committed start saw us down by a few seats at the stride. The boys fought hard but ultimately the two crews were well matched once they'd hit cruising speed and we never made an impression on their lead. We had a great thirty strokes through and past the railway bridge where we really found our rhythm, but finished a canvas short, rating 37 and pushing Maggie all the way. Congratulations due to them!

The crew have come very far since their disappointments at the start of term. A few weeks to polish the start and we'll be ready for a rematch. (Emma)

2nd round
v Pembroke W2
Pembroke crabbed twice off the start, and W2 romped home to a massive victory. A great lesson in being calm on the start line. (Swords)
Quarter finals
Christ's Scratched
Rowed over as Christ's W2 5 girl got hypothermia. A great lesson in dressing appropriately. (Swords)
And not catching ejector crabs (Thomas)
Semi finals
Lost to Emmanuel W2 easily
We set off, Emma a touch fastr off the start, we started to move back with better cruising speed, then a blade fell out. A great lesson in checking your gates/top nuts/foot plates before every race... (Swords)

Robinson M2 Scratched
Some say we are the gods of rowing, and that we exist on a diet of raw babies, and this put them off. All we know is that Robinson didn't show up. (Thomas)
