1st men's VIII, Senior VIIIs

4th of 14 Senior VIIIs, 4th of 8 college crews
Time: 8:59
Felt quite good from in the boat, considering we had 2 subs. Rating somewhere around 35 off the start and dropping down to around 33 we had a nice row albeit with slightly dodgy finishes.
And we beat Maggie. With Macons. Unfortunately, we let Caius , Emma and Churchill beat us. (Matt)

1st women's IV, Senior IVs

Event winners - 1st of 8
Time: 11:17
After previous, mostly disappointing races this term, the women's boat club finally proved their worth with TWO excellent performances today. In the student's invitation race they put in the fastest time, beating all the other colleges! And in the ARA race, they came second, racing universities from all over the country and college crews from both Oxford and Cambridge, and beating their own winning time from the previous division by three seconds! Well done to the girls of First and Third! (nickname)
For the record, this was the fastest time in the upper category of the student invitation race, but not overall; Trinity Hall posted a faster time in the lower event. Also, the Senior4 (ARA) event did not have other Cambridge college crews. (There were three other crews, incl one from UEA and one from Oxford). These results are at the bottom of the page.

It's worth noting that across all events there were 30 women's coxed IV entries; impressively, 11:14 was the 3rd fastest time. (Martin)

1st men's novice VIII, Novice VIIIs

8th in Novice VIIIs - 2nd of the 5 cambridge college crews
Time: 11:44
For a first race this was a different experience, not only with us being entirely confused about when the race actually started but how to pass traffic etc. We therefore hit it hard from as soon as we realised we had actually started racing and never really stopped. The traffic in grassy was well met by a novel line from Dilini, and until the last 300m everything seemed to be running smoothly. At this point we tried to bring her home too hard, resulting in a caught crab and untidy catches. Overall though an exciting first race. (A.J.P. Dewbery)

3rd women's novice VIII, Novice VIIIs

7th of 11 women's novice VIIIs, only 3rd novice VIII entered
Time: 14:28
A beauty of a row. The girls took it up well off the start- Lauren doing a beautiful job of keeping the ratio. They oh-so-nearly made it round grassy, and recovered incredibly well from a gentle encounter with the bank, only to blade clash with the Maggie 1st novice boys, who foolishly attempted overtaking on the outside of ditton. Both crews seemed to come to a stand still... and then the girls took off, embarassing the boys; who took an eternity to get past and never pulled away convincingly.
The row from the railway bridge was full of guts, and the finish was great. Very very nice result!
Many thanks to TomC-inspirational coxing! (jo)
The scenes in Plough Reach somehow managed to resemble those of Lent Term 2000! (Although clearly a vastly insuperior photographer.) (Martin)
