Queens' Novice Ergo Competition, Mich Term 2003

2nd women's novice VIII (2nd division)

2nd!
Time: 16:02
The girls put in a sterling performance. Abi gave us a flying start and had the cheek to make it look easy, Sanjeet recovered brilliantly from coming off her seat, and Anna powered us up through the ranks. Munro took Maggie from behind with style, and Lydia calmly closed the gap to downing (whose first two rowers had ~1:43 splits!). Anastasia closed the gap further, and supersub Louise brought us to within 150m of Downing. We'd come right back from behind, but 150m is quite a lot to make up over 500m...
Well try telling that to Fish, who brought us in 1st in our heat, pipping downing to the post.
Overall we finished 2nd, 5s behind Homerton C... who beat Homerton A by the same margin and Homerton B by 1minute. As far as I'm concerned, today's result was a win, and a well deserved one. (jo)
Our second QEs crew put in an amazing performance last night, stealing the limelight with a resounding win in their round, finishing a close second to a dubiously placed Homerton 'C' boat. We were screaming ourselves hoarse but the girls stayed calm and we gradually overtook Maggie (oh yes!)and Downing who were keeping the pressure on us until with 150m down Fish took the hot seat and blew them all away, finishing a fantasic set of performances convincingly. The girls looked strong and infinitely more stylish than many around - and Louise Bloom did herself proud with a first ever 500m, holding her own against tough competition. An excellent evening - with more than a little victorious feeling after learning of Homerton's strangely successful 'C'-boat. Apparently they're hopeless on the water though - we look forward to a storming season from all our novice boats! Ra ra First and Third! (Danae)
