Lent Term 2024
3rd men's VIII
Newnham Head (Lower VIIIs)
Time: 8:43
Not our finest hour. George had spent enough of yesterday throwing up that Gianpaolo agreed to sub to get us out of the gate, then our cox fell ill on the morning of but with M2 scratching Nithyani joined our merry band.
We did 4 bursts on the way down getting better with each, our race start was slightly scrappy and rushed but not bad on the whole.
Although when we hit first post diaster struck, Tudor's knee gave out (he gave me a more technical description afterwards but I didn't understand it) he couldn't row and had a different rate to the rest of the crew causing both me to shorten up and Gianpaolo to lose timing. The second km seemed to pass too slowly but we made it in the end.
It wasn't a bad time given we effectively had 5 members of the crew actually putting down power. We resolved it was only up from here and are positive looking towards our chances in the GoR.
There was antiphase rowing. We suck.
The time achieved speaks for itself... Only one conclusion can be made: WE WERE SANDBAGGING!!!
