20014-2015 Manifestos

Sean Collins - Secretary

I started rowing at First and Third in October 2012 as a novice, and since then the club has become a fairly central part of my life (and a significant part of my time) in Cambridge. I've rowed as a novice as well as in M2 and M1 over the last two years. This year I've also done some coaching, from novice tubbing sessions to M3 and M4 outings this term. I really enjoy my time on and off the water with the club, and I believe I can contribute to the club as Secretary through efficient coordination of committee meetings and club business and effective communication within the club. Hopefully experience running student meetings during my undergrad will prove useful. As Secretary I will work to find a suitable location for the large number of First and Third and Black Prince attendees at the Fairbairns dinner (not always an easy task) as well as working with college for the Lents and Mays dinners.

I've also had the opportunity to do some small boats rowing (single and double sculls) over the last year, and as Secretary I hope to work with the committee to continue to encourage participation in these activities. I am in Cambridge throughout the year, and so I will be in a good position to help coordinate inter-term and summer rowing in everything from small boats to eights in addition to my work on race entries during term. First and Third has a great tradition, and I look forward to working with the many knowledgeable and experienced members and alumni of the club.
