Men's Lower Boats Captains - Barney Plummer and Matthew Crowe
Barney Plummer - I'm a first year Natsci, and I've been rowing since Michaelmas. I've enjoyed it a lot! Any malicious rumours you may have heard about me getting ejected this week may or may not be true.
Matthew Crowe - I'm a second year Mathmo, I rowed in my first year and have been coxing since Michaelmas this year. I helped with tubbing this year and know exactly what being an LBC involves, having worked closely with this year's LBCs.
Michaelmas:- Recruit freshers and students in higher years - try to get every male fresher signed up at Chaplain's Squash and boatie cocktails
- Persuade seniors to sign up for tubbing coaching
- Develop a training plan before term starts - this will be given to all of our coaches to ensure consistency.
- Get technical coaching for lower boats from senior members - encourage regular coaches
- Start building up fitness training for Queens' ergs in the weeks before
- Advise novices on fitness training if they're keen
- As few early mornings as possible by encouraging novices to organise evening supervisions
- Use crew pastas to get to know novices - and for them to get to know each other
- Organise crew formal/pub crawl
- Work with coxing captain to recruit and train novice coxes
- Enter novices into races for experience and fun!
- Best novices invited to training camp - we will give them plenty of notice to ensure they are available
- Encourage holiday training - prizes for most training
- Be organised!!
- Start training as soon as people are back in Cambridge
- Non 2k selection test
- Aim to select coxes as quickly as possible
- Encourage trialling for the upper boats for those with potential
- Consistent training with regular coaches throughout the term
- Use videos to aid in technical training for higher boats
- Compulsory ergs (at least for M3/4) - 1 or 2 a week
- Continue rowing after bumps
- Help with/organise Talbott Cup as required
- Continue holiday training as before
- Start outings early in term again
- 2k test for selection - again, encourage trialling for upper boats
- Select boats as soon as possible in order to get as much time rowing together as possible
- Have low commitment boats for those concentrating on exams - make it clear that rowing and work are compatible!
- Continue training and ergs as before
