Jonathan Williams - KSS

Kit

As KSS my first action when it comes to kit will be to consider other choices for our supplier. Unless it becomes ludicrously expensive then I'm sure the club as a whole wouldn't mind the superior quality that comes with a brand like JL over Stitch, especially when most of us practically live in kit. All seriously practical matters now aside, I've had a fair few ideas I think the boatclub will surely lap up. The biggest of course being the potential to bring in BBJs (subject to our mighty captain's approval). For those of you that have heard about the hype, they are literally epic, they make you feel epic, and well when you're in one you are epic. For the majority of the club, they are better known as Bad Boy Jumpsuits. If you're still in doubt think all in one, add sleeves and a front zip, and about 100 badass points and you're there (and they are surprisingly cheap too). As long as they are allowed by the club/captain I'll be super keen (oh and of course I'll make sure the usual kit is all still available plus any reasonable requests, there's no such thing as too much kit).

But all kit and BBJ issues aside, I feel we as a club need to pick up our collective stash effort. To be straight with you, to date I've been disappointed. I feel like I can't go 2 metres in Cambridge without seeing some boatclub stash, but it never seems to be FaT stash. Hence I propose to take our stash to a whole new level of awesome, and we can show all the other college boatclubs how it's done, that we should be proud to call ourselves FaT. I'm talking excessive amounts of blue and gold, all the standard T-shirts, hoodies, polos etc and way more. Especially, I think it's time for a revival of the famed FaTbeater. They've been sadly lacking recently and frankly Cindies needs them. Any reasonable stash requests will be considered and if there is enough interest I'll do what I can to make them possible (hell even unreasonable ones will too, let's do the club proud). On a more serious stash note, I was also considering bringing in personalised stash. Not only for committee members, but for everyone: class of 2012 novice hoodies? M4 Lents polos? W2 Mays t-shirts? Rowing camp stash? If there's enough interest then why not, just come to me (or face my inevitable stash spam) and I'll see if I can't get it done. Finally I've also talked with a fair few people and the idea of coaching stash has come up time and time again. I feel that offering stash specifically for those who regularly coach will help to convince members of the club (both LBCs and keen members who have no other way to procrastinate) to take up more coaching, with the possibility of crews purchasing this as a gift to regular coaches (or keen coaches being able to buy special stash anyway). This would just be a nice way to help recognise the efforts of those who give up their time to coach.

Social

It's a well-known but tightly kept secret that there are really only three reasons why people row, namely kit, stash and boat club lashes (pots are a nice bonus, but early morning sessions take a greater motiviation than those). So in my role as KSS I would make sure that FaT show all the other clubs how to partayyyy. Of course the standard post dinner bops will be arranged with suitable chances to get drunk and rave. But aside from the bops I'd like to keep events like the freshers' drinks and bonfire night around too. I'd also try to get more events in, club cindies trips? Yes please. Maybe even a boatclub paintball trip if people are keen enough, or just generally more chances to get the boatclub integrated, especially novices and senior members. I'll always be open to ideas and I'll do my best to make them happen. I just hope the rest of the club as keen as I am. Let's make this a year to remember.
