Julia Attwood - Women's Lower Boats Captain
To me, the role of an LBC is about recruiting and training novices who will help us to carry on the success of the club into future generations and retain the Headships year after year. I am keen to represent the Boat Club to novices not only as a social organization, but as a platform for athletes to demonstrate their skill.
I am a 3rd year engineer and I have been rowing for 2 years, most recently in W1. I have served on the committee as the Junior Treasurer, and having experienced an administrative role I am eager to move into a more involved coaching role. I have been coached by almost everyone, and can draw on their techniques as well as my own rowing experience. I began coaching novices this year and would love to continue to do so.
As WLBC I would:
- Recruit novices using cocktails, chocolate and all the other events I am involved with during Fresher’s week.
- Plan and execute a cohesive and consistent training plan, with a focus on one aspect of rowing each week, so everyone knows how to row, and how to row together.
- Aim to win Fairbairns by providing set coaches for each novice boat, and bringing in a limited land training plan.
- Retain novices past Michaelmas through flexible training sessions.
- Set crews early so they have a chance to experience what it is to be part of the boat club.
- Support the Women’s Captain through the year by organizing the lower boats, getting a W3 together for Lents and a W4 for Mays, to continue FaT’s climb up the bumps chart!
