2007-2008 Manifestos

Harry Braviner, Ji-Jian Chow, Adam Csenki & Thomas O'Neill

One of us coxed the third Lent VIII. Two of us rowed for the 5th Lent VIII, one of the two lower boats run this year. The fourth rowed in the first novice men's boat. We are currently rowing with the Lower May boats. To these teams we have brought enthusiasm and organisation, along with our sheer brute strength (!). The mathmo and the music student among us have light timetables and so will have plenty of time to contribute to the role, while the medics love earlies.

What we intend to do in Novice Term:

  1. Recruit every male fresher at trinity to row & any second or third years who have escaped so far. - (I suppose we may let a couple of them off rowing to cox.)
  2. Field at least 5 novice VIIIs in Fairbairns and Clare Novices.
  3. Make sure every crew wins every race they enter, following the example set by upper boats this year.

Novices

Suck the innocent freshers in to the world of boatieness with the unholy combination of Chaplain’s squash, Boatie squash/ cocktails and promises of formal swaps, booze, women etc…

Aid the WLBCs and the coxing captain to share responsibility for coaching, especially tubbing early in term, and ensuring sufficient numbers of coxes.

Find as many experienced boaties willing to contribute to coaching as possible- preferably experienced and demanding coaches, encouraging daily outings from the highest novice boats, along with more laid back coaches, preferably ones who hate earlies, in order to retain novices.

Teach the novices to row, the emphasis being on technique, with fitness/power coming from encouraging regular outings and participation in land training.

Initial squads formed depending upon skill and interest shown during their first few outings. Crews would be formed mid-term after appropriate evaluation of members within the squads.

Every novice will row Queens Ergs. The higher novice crews will row Winter Head. For Clare Novices we should have 3 or 4 VIIIs. Every novice crew will row Novice Fairbairns.

Aim (dream) for Lent/May Term

  1. Convince people who have 'taken a break from rowing' to return to the lower boats.
  2. Retain IVth & Vth boat headships in Lents and Mays.
  3. Have a VIth (and VIIth?) crew get on. (Especially in Mays where Maggie and Jesus have VIth boats.)
  4. Blades for all the lower men's crews. (preferably with the upper crews as well.)
  5. Aim to have many ex-novices as possible in upper boats.
  6. Solid preparation with race practice to ensure good results in bumps.
  7. Ensure much fun is had at formals and boat club dinners during the terms.
