Whatever happened to 2500m tests and 20 min tests? There was a time (certainly 1990-94) when these were the tests of choice (not least because the Bumps course is more 2.5K than 2K)....

5k ~ 20 mins. if you're a girl anyway. and 2.5k tests sound especially cruel. not least due to the fact that they could do with being about 1/10th of that distance!

Has anyone ever tried a bleep test on an erg? Strikes me this would be a particularly sadistic metric, especially done side-by-side, and might also encourage people not to do their 2ks à la Graham

There's no way you could repeatedly move an erg 20m across the floor while on it.

I'd have thought it'd be the turning around at each end that'd be the tricky bit.
