Fastest W1 in either of the 1st two rounds.
Tough race, Pembroke made many pushes but we stayed in a strong rhythm and crossed the line first. Good row from us.
My first and most likely last Uni IVs. Normally, we struggle to find four rowers who are available
in the middle of the day. The few practice outings in the IV – I think two in the racing crew – had
been fun, but it I found it hard to say how well we would hold up to others. Zara our great captain
was very optimistic, so we had a pretty strict alcohol and “Don’t you dare to put a foot in the gym.”-
ban. It turns out she was correct. We were the quickest IV in the quarterfinals by a respectable
margin. Second quickest with 7 seconds were Pembroke, whom we chased. I think seeing us made
them quicker as they otherwise would have been. We managed to carry this onto the final, which we
won. Nonetheless, we felt like we could have gone quicker. In the final our technique collapsed on
the reach and it felt like we were scraping over the finish line.
But a win is a win, so there is that.

Beat St Edmunds W1 Easily

Gained quickly off of the start, were only two lengths away when they crashed on the outside of grassy- rudder strings snapped. Paddled past them and on toward the finish.
Final
Beat St Catz by 2sec

Don't look at the footage.
We knew it would be the toughest race so far. Solid start, lots of watts going down. Gained on them and sped through first post, then started to suffer. The crew ahead made a massive push down the plough reach, we hung on, my coxing wasn't great so technique started to suffer. Ditton corner felt like it took an age as we battled round it, 2 or 3 different catches for most of it. I should have asked for more focus out of the bend, but alas, instead I asked for 10 big ones. The power increased at the cost of speed and my crew hung on for dear life to the finish, crossing the line just ahead of Catz. Huge effort from the rowers, very proud of them!
First Uni IV's win for the women's side since 2007!

Not sure if this is truly a scratch crews as we had one practice outing but we were determined to row like a scratch crew.
Practice starts occurred on the row down. They were good.
Unfortunately, we had used up all the good starts by the time the race came.
Being chased, Thomas informed me they were gaining on First Post Reach. He then neglected to mention we'd opened out 10(?) lengths by The Plough. The boys had a fun stress-free row home. I had a panicked race thinking they were just inside station the entire way.
Semi finals
Beat Maggie M2 by 2sec

Beat Maggie M2 by 2sec

We arrived this morning to a quick chat from Bomber and the proclamation that we now had a panic bucket to improve our speed as "if you row like you did on Wednesday you will get destroyed."
Our new stroke man helped us get the rate up quicker and this was the first time we were able to balance the IV.
At marshalling both myself and George managed to throw our bottles in the Cam, not quite the way we intended to lose weight.
We had a very close race with Maggie but ultimately the (slightly) quicker crew prevailed and we were on to face Queens.
The "strategic" bucket seemed to do its job!
Final
Lost to Queens M2 by 11sec

Lost to Queens M2 by 11sec

After Maggie III scratched Queens II had a bye to the final. Both we and Maggie II came to them to suggest a three way final race skipping the semis to make it a fair fight. Queens (unsurprisingly) said no. So much for gentlemanly conduct.
We on very tired legs lost the race to Queens but once the moment was passed and cooler heads had returned it was still a day of success. We had beaten Maggie II, a crew which bumped our first boat just two years ago. We are in a good place moving forward.
