Early Lent term race practice for many college crews.

Newnham Short Course
Sat 30th January
A timed head race from the Motorway Bridge to the Railway Bridge (approx 2k)
Now changed to a 2k race.

Lent Bumps Getting-on Race

The 2000m qualifying race for the Lent Bumps
The Lent Bumps are the focus of the term for college rowing, but only those boats finishing sufficiently high in last year's races are automatically entered. All other crews must compete for the remaining places available.

The famous Cambridge University Bumps on the River Cam
The focus of the year so far. The Lent Bumps are smaller and less prestigious than the May Bumps, but nevertheless involve 69 men's and 52 women's crews.

2nd men's VIII: 11th in division 2
Stayed level - Bumped Downing II, bumped by Corpus

Down 4 - Bumped by Wolfson, Murray Edwards II, Hughes Hall II and Darwin II
3rd men's VIII: 9th in division 3
Up 2 - Bumped Peterhouse II and Churchill II

Down 3 - Bumped by Sidney Sussex II, Emmanuel III and St Catherine's M2

A side-by-side knock out regatta on the reach, over 800m
An event for the lower boats, who haven't generally got on for Lent Bumps

3rd men's VIII (3rd men's VIIIs): Beat Robinson M3 by 2.5 lengths in the 1st round and Lost to Jesus M3 by 2.5 lengths in the 2nd round

Drumps
Fri 11th March
Like bumps but illegal and with alcohol.
Drumps involves a course of approximately 8 stations (with marshals, usually unbribable) at which members of a racing crew must each drink a particular alcoholic beverage in the shortest possible time, before moving onto the next station and a different drink. The aim is to both 'drump' crews ahead and ultimately to finish Head of the Drumps. Club formal hall generally completes the evening.

Head of the River Race
Sat 19th March
A huge head race on the Tideway (tidal river Thames) over the University Boat Race course
The largest annual VIIIs head race in the country, attracting most rowing clubs and many University and College crews. The course is 4 1/4 miles, from Mortlake to Putney.

1st men's VIII (IM3 Academic): 145th Overall, 23rd in Category, 6th fastest Cambridge college
2nd men's VIII (Novice Academic): 238th Overall, 15th in Category
