Please could someone whose mathematical acumen has been less dulled by age than mine offer his/her opinions on the following two questions (with their respective answer options) from this quiz? 1. In how many ways can a team score 22 points in rugby union? a) 4 b) 5 c) 6 2. A forward weighing 18 stone running at 10mph collides head-on with a fly-half of 10 stone running at 12mph. Assuming no loss of momentum, at what speed is the lighter player knocked back? a) 5mph b) 6mph c) 7mph | |||

In how many ways can a team score 22 points in rugby union? 2. A forward weighing 18 stone running at 10mph collides head-on with a fly-half of 10 stone running at 12mph. Assuming no loss of momentum, at what speed is the lighter player knocked back? 5+5+5+7, 5+7+7+3, 5+5+3+3+3+3, 7+3+3+3+3+3. Unless I've missed a combination. (2) If you assume that the foward stops dead in the collision, you get an answer of 6, which would seem to be most likely to be the answer required. |
