After nearly being crashed into by a city VIII at the cross over point [well ok it wasn't that close but it could have been!] Can I just ask - why? Why, at an arbitrary point in the river do we have switch sides? Seems a bit odd.. and dangerous, to me. | |

It's so that crews rowing upstream can practise taking the racing line around grassy (ie. take all the corners on the inside). | |

However having said that, if a collision occurs it's both boats' fault.(*) on most rivers downstream crews have right of way as it is harder for them to steer. |
