Like the other mens' boats we too had a plan, though ours was much much simpler - keep it clean and get to the finish without anything dodgy happening - something which we did pretty well considering we were a scratch crew. Good race overall and we beat Maggie, which if I learnt anything during my novice term, is that that's the main priority :)

A good solid row for what was a scratch crew in our first race of the term. Kept it strong for the most part, though we paid the price and faded a bit in the last 500m. Bodes well for the rest of the term :)

Having destroyed LMBC Bailey at Autumn Head by a massive two seconds, we fancied our chances of getting the win today. Even on the row up the omens were good, with some of the best paddling we've done as a crew... wonder if that has anything to do with me not rushing up the slide for a change? :p Anyways...

The start was pretty good, gaining ground immediately, and we managed to settle into a good rhythm which we were able to sustain until near the end. Not entirely sure if the planned second start really materialised, but then again don't remember much through the pain. Full marks to Honey for some good cornering and being able to make herself heard over all the noise without a working cox box. It was a nice feeling being able to hear the Maggie cox get noticeably louder as we closed down on them ;)

A windy day which made lining up for the start a real pain, espcecially when Christs' failed to hear the "GO!" and we had to line up again. We got off to a decent start and held them at bay for a fair bit, but a mini-crab as we got about half way allowed them to close down a bit. Despite recovering reasonably well, we just weren't able to hold them off and ultimately the better crew won.

Thanks to Rob Patterson for subbing.

Pretty decent row all round. Nice to see Albert's resorting to stealing our blades and our boat in order to keep his boat faster though ;)

Lots of sunshine, hit a duck, held boat at heads for ten minutes, ate mince pies and a won shot glass... Beats sitting in the lab on a Saturday afternoon ;)

I know I said I was looking forward to racing past first post corner for the first time in a bumps race, but come on, this is ridiculous! :P

Good recovery off the abysmal start, let's keep focused on friday and hopefully we won't have to do this ever again!

In hindsight we were probably unlucky in not joing the top four boats and winning our blades... but then again hindsight is such a wonderful thing. Two dubious outings leading up to Pembroke regatta left me fearing for my bumps average, but an excellent result on the day plus a week of good solid outings set us up nicely for bumps. Three quick bumps and a rowover in the most amazing head wind has made for a most enjoyable four days of racing. Not too bad at all :)

Rather pedestrian-like effort. We never really got into top gear, which was evident in how easily Fitz were able to overtake us. Much to improve, and improve we shall.

Got beaten by LMBC M2 by 1s. Damn.

If only we'd been organised enough to do some practise starts... abysmal start left us with too much to do, and not enough water to do it in.
