I thought that was a really good row. You all made up for my bowside incompetence allowing me to row blade square most the way and now that i've recovered i can say it was good fun.

Thanks to Honey for coxing, and to the 1st IV, i think i speak for everyone when i say we were glad to be of service ;)

The first leg felt pretty good, loads better than our race/first_outing_since_bumps last week. I hope the times reflect that.
second leg, we kept it together well. A good lift after the railway bridge to the finish, when we were apparently closing on the men's double in front! (never mind the fact they overtook us at the bottom of the reach...shhh!!)
Oh yes, and we had much fun marshalling ;)

well done girls, finally ending my vigil at 11.55! best of luck for bumps :D

It was quite an eventfull row back though, we got bumped a couple of times... and maggie XXX got scum paint on our boat (hope their bowman's alright). I think the girls need to practice holding it up **fast**

... the shame! But hey, we rowed quite well, so we can take some pride in that. Maybe if we'd done half as many weights' sessions as Magnus has done this term it would have been different.

Very exciting race, well for me anyway.

We had a pretty solid first kilometre. Gave the crew in front plenty of room off the start, so it was quiet all the way up to ditton.

After ditton, we had a proper restart, and there were 4 or so crews fairly close to each other on the reach. Went straight past the first one. Then tried to go between the next two, but had to settle for overtaking one and then going for the bump on the other. Luckily they moved over in time. We ground them down over the last 500m, finishing a second or two after them.

Well rowed guys!!

This was good row, unfortunately there was a crash on the outside of ditton. I won't say it was caused by them, but CCAT 3 (now ccat 2) started very close behind and eventually overtook around ditton corner, forcing the girls to go wide... too wide.

My unofficial timing had them around 6:45 at this point. About 2 minutes from the finish I say. So by my reckoning, this would have put them somewhere near the fastest non-qualifiers or possibly even the slowest qualifiers.

Keep keen, keep training and see you all back next term!

There was never any doubt about who was going to win this race. Our girls were ahead after the first stroke and kept ploughing through finishing 5 lengths or so ahead.

Next round is against Jesus and should be a pretty tough race. Hopefully keeping calm and rowing long should see them though.

Best of luck!!

This had the makings of an excellent race. The crews were neck and neck off the start, and kept it there for nearly half the reach. And then....

crab no 1 - recovered quickly no ground lost.

crab no 2 - recovered not so quick, couple of feet lost.

crab no 3 - boatstopper.

The fact that Jesus didn't pull away from them after they got back to all VIII shows how evenly matched these crews were.

Never mind girls, stuff happens. Top tip - keep calm and focused for the next race.

Very committed row, right up to the end when they managed to stop a magdalen (oxford) crew.

And don't worry about the girls who overtook you. It was a CUWBC crew - they're *almost* men, in a purely rowing sense ;)

Considering these girls aren't particularly experienced and there were four coxes in the boat in total (hehe), this was a very good row.

Despite having a blade clash with an imperial crew (grr!), they kept moving together fairly well, responded to the calls for pushes, and didn't give up at all.

Very impressed, couple more outings, then bring on Clare Novices!

Didn't actually get to see any of the race :( but by all accounts it was a good effort. I can definately say that on the way down to the start they looked way better than any of the novice crews around. Particularly the maggie crew with balloons on their bow - wierd no?

Well done girls! keep up the good work

Not a bad start to the term. The girls showed plenty of fighting spirit and pipped two crews right on the line.

Despite losing to a drunken Texan, Amelia can be said to have claimed the moral high ground in this race. Throwing down the gauntlet after a stint of hearty drinking in the Curry King, she gave James a run for his money, despite being forced to race in an all-in-one she had obviously just purloined from the Drying Cupboard. Good effort Amelia, but next time make sure you've *properly* drunk James under the table before attempting to out-erg him.

A glass of wine while cleaning the boat house and two pints at the Curry King had James eating with his hands by the end of the meal. Despite this unimpressive pre-race warmup, and after an extended period of nodding off and prancing about in lycra, James nevertheless managed a respectable split even though he later admitted to "feeling sick if I rated above 24". Well done, James, on beating the KSS by 45s and securing the drunken 2k championship.

Absolutely awesome!!!!

What I'm most pleased about is that we're closing the gap on the first women which has been pretty big the last couple of years. 35 seconds off them today, and we've still got a lot to work on. I am soooo proud to be coxing you guys xxxxxx

Definately best row of the week and even shorter than tuesday. Awesome!

Yes, New Hall got pushed out by the outflow (this will not happen to us tomorrow, coz Iain and our bankparty are amazing) and so I just kinda concentrated on being in a good position to pull in for greenery. hehe. Didn't make a power call, totally unnecessary when you'd have bumped by the 2nd stroke after it. You girls rock.

we rock.

Our plan was just to have a good day out, throw in a nice little paddle rating about 28, and finish a bit higher than we started.

There was a delay getting on to the water, as we were stuck in the middle of a long queue and we couldn't get to our marshalling point across the river. Ended up starting about 15 places late. The start was very controlled, I was a bit worried that it was a bit too controlled. I guess I'm too used to 200m sprints. Turned out that the girls paced themselves well. I didn't notice any drops in power, except when Tera's blade popped out the gate (I've got a not very clear video of that btw). Rated 30. Overtook a number of crews, which is always fun. Got overtaken by one off the start, but they must have gone off too hard as they only finished 7 seconds faster. We overtook them on the way back anyway, shows our superior strength and fitness.

We rowed and rowed for 21 minutes. Pushed off various supporters along the course. Jo bled all over her blade and the boat as usual. Jo bled onto my shoe which was not so usual.

The row home was very very long. I was suprised at the paddling speed of alot the crews, and also how wimpy they were about other crews getting close to them. Clearly never done bumps before.

I think we can claim victory over emma 2, the only 2nd boat to have beaten us this term. It's a shame it clashes with bumps next year, W2 would probably get home an hour earlier if they started 100 places ahead.

Great way to end an amazing term.

Spectating isn't usually fun when the opposition doesn't even put up a decent fight. But this was very satisfying.
