Jesus were unbelievably fast; there was nothing we could do. Overall we rowed well for the short time we were racing.

The main positive of the race was that we went further than on Tuesday, but not much further.
There may have been an element of complacency in our crew going into the race; we simply weren't expecting the jump Maggie had on us and perhaps we panicked.
The best thing to do on Friday is to forget the last two races and row the best we can to hold off Queens' and hopefully we'll make it past the first corner.

It was disappointing. We caught a crab off the first few strokes of the start allowing Queens' to plough straight into MC Rowe's back under the motorway bridge. Matt fortunately managed to emerge from the collision unscathed.
In total, we probably only rowed 50m, which left everyone in the boat feeling highly frustrated.
Our last race tomorrow is going to be unpredictable, since we haven't had a chance to fully gauge Queens' and Wolfson's capabilities; I only hope that we can make a proper race of it, to make up for today.

A very promising first race for NW1.
Despite cold conditions and a lack of kit at the start, they warmed up nicely through the race.
They kept their composure and timing throughout the length of the race, aided well by Emily's pertinent calls.
They dealt well when overtaking Christ's around Ditton and didn't lose focus. Emily coped well with the tricky steering round the corners, despite a usually ineffective boat.
Into the head wind on the reach, they sat tall and worked well to push off the crew behind.
They were still together as they crossed the line, which couldn't be said for most of the crews around them.
Overall a very good result as the 2nd college VIII in the category.

A very good row.
Took nearly a length off the start and looked very strong.
Responded well to Downing's push and despite being brought back to quarter of a length, they looked like they could have held them off all the way to the finish.
The race was marred by poor umpiring with little consideration for the wind conditions.
After a gust brought us into the bank, the girls recovered well and the build to the finish was inspired.
Overall the row shows great promise for Fairbairns on Thursday.

The quality of rowing and the balance off the easy to the start did well to intimidate Pembroke NW2 before the race. This was evident as FaT NW2 took 3/4 of a length by the stride. The girls settled well holding off Pembroke, but the pace was perhaps too high. Cracks started to show and whilst the girls fought valiantly to stay ahead, Pembroke managed to pull them back and break through. Many thanks are due to the numerous subs we needed over the weekend; for some of them this was their first race in a boat and without them we wouldn't have been nearly as competitive.
We'll take this in our stride in the week leading up to Fairbairn's and train hard to ensure we're fighting for the top spot in our category.
