Event: Clare Novice Regatta 2010 - Cup

Just after the start we almost crashed into Hughes Hall, our stroke side blades hitting their blades about 8-10 times. As a result 6 caught a crab, we slowed down, had to stop and restart. Meanwhile Hughes Hall continued rowing and took a lead of at least 2-3 lengths (being in the boat, I couldn't tell), and eventually won the race. I don't know what the final margin was.

We kept on rowing and according to those watching the race we were were catching up, but it was almost impossible to win this race after the unfortunate start.

Hughes Hall A ended up winning the cup.

Event: Lent Bumps 2011 - Wednesday

We were aware that Magdalene II were 3 places behind us and Peterhouse II will get Selwyn II very quickly, so Magdalene will go for an overbump, especially considering our race performance against them in Pembroke Regatta. The plan was to keep this in mind from the very beginning and if we cannot bump ARU quickly, focus on keeping Magdalene well behind us. I felt, that we did a fair job in that , until that massive crab, of course, when we had no real chance of doing anything.

Still, I think it was encouraging that we did not give up immediately and stern 6 kept pushing relatively hard even with that crabbed blade floating in the water (part of this is that people in the stern didn't even know that we crabbed). The crab took at least 12-15 strokes to recover from - just enough for Magdalene to bump.
