Technical row over because of a clusterbadger under the motorway bridge. Bummed out.

Intense race. Eddies, obviously keen for blades, thought they'd get an easy bump and got well within a canvas before Grassy, but burnt out and despite two crabs for us, we stayed calm, held them off and rowed over with a good few lengths between us by the finish. Fantastic race for all involved :) RA RA FIRST AND THIRD!

Good start, stayed together but they just happened to be faster and caught us at First Post Corner. Kudos to Alex for not conceding until the very end :) onto tomorrow!

There's not a huge amount to say really, given the race was over so quickly. We weren't great and we know we can be good, but neither were we absolute gash and despite holding station with Pembroke, Selwyn caught us just after the motorway bridge. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Selwyn were inevitably going to bump Pembroke ahead of us, so we knew all along we'd be chasing the overbump. Up to First Post the two crews behind Catz seemed to be closing on them but eventually bumped out, leaving us to escape. Catz weren't slow and got within about three quarters of a length on the first corner but (for once) we didn't panic and got away. We responded well to their pushes down Plough Reach and came off the better of the two in the headwind on the reach. We ploughed on under the railway bridge and into Chesterton a good three lengths ahead, as noone seemed to have any idea where the finish line actually was.

Great row for all involved and many thanks to Katie for subbing!

So Robinson started off from backstops and pointing towards the bank, which obviously gave us a bit of a headstart before the race even began. After a flawless start, the girls pulled away, and within 10 strokes were a length ahead already. With a few calls of "push 10 for Neil", they were at the finish and Robinson were nowhere to be seen. On the way home, Alex and I were so impressed with their (still) beautiful rowing that we crashed into a bollard.

Great practice for Saturday and a well-rowed raced. Good work, girls!

The boys had a great start and were ahead by almost half a length after the draw strokes, but after catching a crab Selwyn overtook and we never quite got it back. Selwyn pushed on and so did we, and as they went under the railway bridge we were only two lengths down, but by the finish line we were tired. All in all the boys should be proud, they kept it together and the start was ferocious!

Once again the opposition weren't quite ready off the start, giving our girls a bit of an advantage. We were quicker off the start than Jesus and held it together very well, and after 40 or so strokes it was clear we would win. Even though they were miles ahead, the girls didn't slacken off and when we crossed the finish line Jesus were nowhere to be seen!

For a crew that had never rowed together before, this was a great row. The girls were mostly together, mostly in time and kept the power consistent throughout. Anglia Ruskin's first boat were behind us and although they caught up, the girls pushed them away and made sure they couldn't overtake!

Special mentions to Rozi for not crabbing until the very first stroke after the finish, and to Penelope for learning to row just one day before the race. Well done girls, you should all be proud.

So there were two boats in our category, us and a Churchill W1 IV. Given that we'd never trained together (Janina subbing and switching sides at the last minute) and that we'd had a not-so-good outing in a racing shell the previous day, we decided to use the Coastal, to the amusement of all of us and probably everyone else too.

Going off, we already knew we were likely to lose, so we thought we'd have some fun with it. Our boat may have been designed for the sea, but we rowed her like she owned the Cam. The first leg was good, with a time of 9:56, and throughout the rate stayed high and we stayed committed. The second leg was a bit more painful but, although we had the slower time of 10:22, this was actually the same time as Churchill's W1, so well done everyone!

As we pushed off, Ulrike told us to "make that bath tub fly, girls!" and I think this proves we did just that.

So we went into this race having been severely affected by the ice and snow of mid February and not having had as many outings as we would have liked over the weeks. However, we did have a crew who were either experienced, keen or both.

On the paddle up it became clear that the boat was a lot more sat than it should be for a crew of mixed abilities, and travelling really quite fast too. This gave us confidence for the race, and we went off hard and fast and pulling away from the Maggie W3 behind us. A few pushes through the corners and down the reach and we crossed the finish line.

We went off too far behind Emma W3 to really know if we were ever gaining on them, but that doesn't really matter as we start 13th in division 3 and they start 18th. Maggie never seemed to make much (if any) distance on us, which is promising given that they are behind us for bumps.

All in all a great row, and a brilliant (if slightly unexpected - given the levels of training) result.

Not much to say here really - a late drop-out and futile attempts to find a sub meant we had to scratch. Hopefully we'll race tomorrow; given their easy ride so far (bumping a crashed Maggie boat on the first day), Anglia Ruskin W2 deserve a decent chase. Hopefully, having not yet made it even close to the motorway bridge, their fitness will be lacking and their egos will be overinflated.

A gutsy start but unfortunately Christ's W3 were faster. However, although we have been bumped down three times (and although things probably would have been different if we could have rowed on Wednesday), I think we can still call this a successful bumps campaign, as
a) We are the second fastest W3 on the river
b) We are the best ever Lents FaT W3
c) We didn't get spoons
These are all things to be proud of, so well done girls!

We did it!! We didn't spoon!

Today you proved you can row, you can push and you can aim high. Well done girls, it's been a pleasure rowing with you and I'm so proud of you all :)
