That was so amazing girls! Good job! Thank you Hannah for the awesome stroking job that you did, I can't believe we raced 5k at rating 32 and bumped 2 crews simultaneously! Dami, great coxing there, 10 stroke pushes EVERY 10 strokes :) I am so proud of us all and know we'll be even stronger for bumps! Yeah First and Third!!!

We rowed well. Best row of the day. It looked and felt nice and controlled from the bow seat. I still can't understand how we beat Emma II by 14 seconds in Robison Head, our W3 beat Emma IV by a length today and we lost to Emma III by a length despite our good row. Maybe I am just over-analyzing... Still, good work everyone!

Yay! We bumped again. The start was better that previous days, althogh that cannon can surely be scary. Tomorrow we're right in front of it. Apparently New Hall's bows were not straight when they started, so they took time straightening while we went right at them for the bump. The row was short, but not bad. I don't remember hearing a power call from Dami, maybe because we were so close to bumping. Good work everyone, let's keep it strong for tomorrow!

I cannot be happier! We got blades and a place for W2 in Lent Bumps next year. Our last day was the best row during all of Bumps, even though our start was maybe the worst, a consequence of starting right next to the cannons and the outflow. An excellent job by Dami and Iain for getting us straight. The row was a bit longer than previous days (though we always managed to bump before or at first post corner), but we went into it strong and confident to catch St Catherine's and win our blades. It has been a pleasure being a part of W2 and rowing with you all term. A shame Ulrike couldn't row with us for Bumps, but many thanks for Clair for subbing in. We justified our hard training and great motivation. Many thanks to Neil and John for coaching us. It has been trully amazing! More goodness to come in Mays!

WOW!!! What more can I say! We got blades AGAIN! Totally deserved. We could have triple overbumped any boat in that divsion given a free river. Good commitment, LOTS of power, nice rowing, and pretty damn good looking rowers. We are the fittest and fastest second eight on the Cam. Fact! I will miss you guy so much next year. It has been two absolutely amazing terms that I will remember forever. Keep up the good work next year. I hope to get to row with you in Black Prince.

Good job girls! I am so proud of you all! We did it and we did it well. Even though our ranking is not that great, all the times of the crews before us are really close. Let's do it double tomorrow. Good rowing again.

The first half was committed but the power somehow didn't come together. The results also show that we were significantly slower than Jesus. In the second half we picked it up, and caught up the time lost before. Also, we were rowing with men's VIII's before and after us, and kept distance from the crew chasing us while nearly overtaking the crew in front. Finishing 1 second slower than Jesus and Christ's is not a bad result, because Christ's was significantly better than us last term, even if the rumor was that Jesus had mixed their first and second eights. The main point to be taken from this race is that we CAN stay head only if we remain committed and keep on training HARD!

Event: Magdalene Silver Pairs 2008 - Women's 2-

Yeah, indeed it was unfortunate we had unmatched opponents but we had a very good row. Seeing how we improved from our first outing last Monday when we could certainly not go in a straight line, nor apply any power what-so-ever, to finish this race with a minor crash and good rhythm throughout, is a great achievement. Hambleden has got major problems and I cannot wait to row in the new women's pair weighted appropriately and with shoes two rather than five sizes larger than mine, and with a steering plate that works!

Also, forgot to mention the most important part! Even though we did lose this race, we won Foster Fairbairnes pairs by default being the only women's pair that entered (which is why we were entered into Magdalene silver pairs in the first place). We should have gone with the same strategy as the men: enter as many pairs from FaT as we can, so there is enough (any) competition and fair racing.

A good outcome nonetheless. Thanks to Bryn, Tom and Will for great bank steering and coaching.

Wow what a day! I woke up this morning, a day after, and the first thought that came up to my mind was, damn I am late for our morning paddle! But then it dawned that there is no morning paddle today. We did it! We retained the headship!

We started Mich term as a crew who was miles away from staying head. None of us had rowed in W1, none had a 2k sub 8 min. The numerous ergs, circuits, and not to mention crazy long outings nearly every day, were all worth it! Race by race we were climbing up, from being 5 places down the top (Fairbairn's), to being 1s slower (Winter Head-to-Head), to being 5 seconds faster (Head of the Nene), and finally to being winners (Pembroke Regatta), when we finally realized that we can do this. It was certainly not easy. Rowing to the start every day was a huge mental challenge. We had amazing four calm starts (we had trained our bodies with all those practice starts this term), beautiful strides, and good powerful rowing (despite the wind) to push off any crew behind us. We really wanted this, we had bigger hearts and more determination than anyone else. We rowed over head four times as a crew, and trusted each other completely that everyone will give their best. And we did it! We are FaT W1! I am proud to have rowed with you girls and to have fought hard for this headship.

Many thanks to Iain, Seb, Neil, Tom, Peter Summers and everyone else who helped us become this crew and who believed in us.

Bow: Height - 5'2" (smaller than our cox!!!); weight - 8.1 st; finish position last Lents - 5th W3 division; highest boat before Mich 2007 - W2.

*Footnote: Trained for 7 weeks and rowed over head with a rib stress fracture, which I am finally going to give a rest (or at least until I get into a boat or do an erg).

I only just noticed that this race was up, so I think it deserves a comment. The race was the 5th outing with the crew that raced, and it's was great that we had a good week to get used to rowing together. The first outing was not bad, but the best part was the every successive outing got a lot better than the previous one. We rowed at rate 32/34 very comfortably by the end of the week and definitely for the race, while still keeping strong and long strokes. Tom contributed greatly to our improvements by showing up *nearly* always on time and coaching all the outings. A great thanks to him from the whole crew, and to Cynthia for the amazing coxing of the outings and the race.

Now... about the race. There were three crews total entered in our category so were going for a win (a scarf or a shot glass, this was ours!). Being close to the end of the second division, the marshals were letting crews start racing very close to each other. We started about 4-5 lengths behind a Cam 99 crew in the same division as us. About 1k through, we caught up and as we were overtaking them right in front of King's Boathouse, the crew in front of them (some school boys IV), decided to cross on the other side of the river so our boat was in a non-existing gap between the two boats. After a lot of blade clashing, cox hitting (luckily not our cox), and stopping then restarting, neither boat let us go before them. As soon as we were off again, we overtook both the women's IV in front of us and the boys' IV and finished with a good sprint.

I reckon without stopping twice our time should have been around 9 min which is a really great result! Nice job girls! And we got medals, slightly less useful than either scarfs or shot glasses...

That was a great row girls! After the morning race, we were all tired but the sharp focus and motivation kept us going hard and powerful until the end. Emma's win was less than 2 seconds, so I agree with Harriet that it is so unfair to have it be a difference between a win and a loss. But despite the final ranking, we rowed really well and we should be proud of ourselves. Good job!

For both this and the semi-final Iain had us do a power 20 after the start, to make sure we didn't give away too much off the start as in the previous races. We had a good start, with a few wobbles because of the wind, but in general we kept it together well and our power 20 gave us the push we wanted right before the kink. But the Downing girls were stronger, more powerful and rowed well, and slowly moved away from us. We kept slight behind them until the Railways bridge by doing lots of pushes. But exhaustion kicked in (as much in the other crew) and despite a good fight they got their deserved win.

We are sad about the outcome, but not because we did not row well. We gave our best, but Downing was better and gave it all as well. Very good race indeed, and it puts us in good shape for Fairbairns and Lents.

Not that bad of a row indeed! The first part of the race was quite good. We probably didn't rate higher than 26-28, and my steering was great! Not only did we not crash, but I took nice lines even as a scull overtook us on Ditton and I had to go wide. There were bits where we lost it, but nothing that we did not recover in a few strokes. The difference between the first and the second piece is that we went for it in the first. The second felt a bit sluggish and heavy, and we never really pushed for it. After first post I steered too early into Grassy, nearly crashed and had to steer out which made me steer back in quite hard into the black barge, leading to a few zig-zags. This obviously affected our rowing, and we only started rowing together again after Ditton. The reach was a nice piece as the final to the race, but as said before we didn't really go for it. Still, a good experience to row in a pair, and get some amazing coaching from JPD and Tom Rose. We went out *every* day (except for two) in the last two weeks. Good effort!

Good job girls, and sorry it didn't work out today, but you are all here next year, so it's certainly something to look forward to. I am very proud of you! Have a good time at the dinner and the bop tonight, and I expect some awesome rowing next term and blades in May bumps. Also, please can someone write a detailed report on the rowing once everything is over?

A disappointing result to be bumped less than 200m off the finish, however, a damn good race. Given results earlier this term, it was expected by most to see Christs bumping us by Grassy. We proved them wrong. We had a great start, went straight into our push for 10 and strode off surprising Christs as they didn't hear their expected whistle. We got into a great rhythm, and kept it together, rowing long and hard as we had been recently. Every stroke in the water was committed, even as they were closing in on us, we kept it together. The final continuous whistle kept on going for so long, that I thought my head is going to explode. Unfortunately they were faster than us over the long distance. Despite the result, pretty pleased with the row. Some good racing to follow...

Well done. I didn't watch this race but I can only assume it was close. I wanted to congratulate you not only for doing well this term, but also for being honourable and fair. When we won in a close race with Emma in Lents 2008, they gave us only offensive words.

And remember, there will be other races to come...
