Our best race yet, my best ever. With reference to the rating of 39 I am proud to report that we also had some cover.

We had to easy in the gut when Girton bumped out in front of us. It is hard to quantify the delay this caused but Sidney II who started behind us and were well back got quite close. It think we lost a length or two and so without a delay we would have had a good chance of overbumping Downing III. However, in the event we were not quick enough.

This was the second time over the course for the day and the steering showed an improvement. The main race was very close - the finish marshall who dropped his hand as Alex crossed the line said that when he looked up the other marshall had also dropped his hand by the time he looked up.

Since the Tit Hall opponent had closed appreciably off the start a re-row from Ditton to the finish just below the railway bridge did not look very hopeful. However Alex found what it took to win by a few seconds.

The row to first post was a bit 'agricultural'. We only closed on Clare II at one third of the rate they closed on Catz II. Further ahead LMBC II failed to take Grassy corner and so upset the form guide which led us to expect to be chasing them for a mammoth triple overbump. We chased Homerton down the reach in unremarkable fashion. Well done Clare II.

This was a much easier race than we expected. Caius II failed to close on us and we had the pleasant surprise of getting the first whistle somewhere around first post (my recollection is not terribly clear). We completed the bump after an extremely tight line around grassy.

Very satisfying; nothing exciting (apart from the Champs WVet? 8+ which tried to ram us as we passed) but once we started overtaking we decided to keep the habit up.

A much more positive row than Thursday - a little more power and rate - saw us close steadily on Magdelene (who had a lower boat rower in as a sub). Firm contact resulted just before first post corner. Fitzwilliam, who must have fancied there chances of putting our name on their blades, were two lengths down when we bumped. One of my happier rowing moments!
