It's kit Jim, but not as we know it by Simon - Sun 14th Jul 2002, 8:10am
While I'm away sailing (and proudly using my 2nd Mays top to protect against the Biscay elements), a small poser to keep you amused over the summer.... What's the most obscure/impressive place anyone's ever worn a piece of 1st & 3rd kit?

And before the pedants jump in: that's geographical place, not which part of your body...
by Mike - Sun 14th Jul 2002, 6:48pm
Does this competition include wearing kit to events at which kit would be inappropriate? e.g. yellow socks at graduation etc. (not that I've done that or know anybody who has).

RTT need not apply...
by RTT - Sun 14th Jul 2002, 7:26pm
I suspect lake hunters will win here; after all, who else wears just a Uni IVs vest and shorts whilst at the top of a 900m hill in sub zero conditions?

I have also worn an all-in-one at home on Xmas day because I was too hot and hadn't taken home any other shorts....

I wore my splash top in Cairns when I was in Oz last Christmas. It definitely wasn't waterproof enough to cope with the rain though.
by Sarah - Mon 15th Jul 2002, 9:49pm
And I think I wore my lycra to go running in Monteray Bay in California this Christmas.

so how about we start a gallery section devoted to bizarre and far-away places club members have worn their kit? I expect there are enough people going on exciting holidays this summer to make a good start. A few words to Pete Convey and we might even be able to cover every continent!

Not exactly exotic (what with being in Manchester), but I did wear my "The Meek..." t-shirt for the second round of University Challenge. As it says "We Are Better Than You" underneath the c'n'b, it's just as well that on that occasion we were!
by Dubya - Tue 16th Jul 2002, 12:14pm
I'm sure Tom or Headcase has traded some of our kit away to random people (maybe Yale, Otago, other random characters). Do these count?
by Simon - Tue 16th Jul 2002, 1:08pm
You mean there should also be a competition for the person wearing the kit as well as the location?
by RTT - Tue 16th Jul 2002, 2:23pm
My BPBC splashtop has been worn by someone from Otago, as has my FaT fleece.

In addition, my second BPBC splashtop has been worn by "Neil's Kate" (do we know her surname?) to go down to the river for skinny dipping.

Again Mr Rose.....

(Will he ever learn?)

Not desperately impressive, but I wore my First and Third cap while watching the Redgrave IV win their semi-final at Sydney
by Rich - Wed 17th Jul 2002, 12:17pm
And I believe I also did a bungee jump in Canada whilst wearing a rowing t-shirt (think that might have been a "Meek may inherit" as well)

PRIZE OFFERING

I offer a prize of a bottle of champagne, a bottle of college port, AND a pair of cufflinks, to the first person whose 1st & 3rd kit is worn by a human at an altitude with respect to the earth greater than 10 miles (52800 feet).

Winning this prize may be tough, as the target population of wearers of kit includes only fighter pilots and astronauts.

It is not necessary to be wearing the kit yourself at that altitude. Acceptable proof is a photograph including the kit wearer, a timestamp, and a background which includes a view of the earth from that altitude; plus a separate photograph of the transport vehicle used.

The kit wearer will be eligible for the same prizes, plus a free ticket to a boat club dinner, paid for by me. Transport costs both to and from specified altitude and to and from the boat club dinner unfortunately cannot be covered.

kind of off the point - but a girl at my gym (in the ever so exotic newbury) ponces round in her caius kit.
by fashion police - Mon 22nd Jul 2002, 7:50pm
Scary looking school girl at Nat Champs was poncing around in a Downing hoodie she'd found in a bargin bin (best place for it). If actively choosing to wear such kit wasn't bizare enough: she wan't actually from the so said club but from another (whose name evades me: answers on a postcard) with tastelessly similar kit: no one felt kind enough to inform her of her foolish fashion faux pas
by fashion police - Mon 22nd Jul 2002, 7:54pm
nearly forgot: it was so cold i nearly bought some dodgy gold and navy kit but decided that i needed to be clinically hypothermic before i'd sink low enough to buy lycra of any kind
by Simon, in Spain - Wed 24th Jul 2002, 1:39pm
Arse.
Having set this challenge up I forgot to pack the zephyr and it´s so warm here that I doubt the gold socks will make an appearance.
by not Kate's Neil - Wed 24th Jul 2002, 9:49pm
I know her surname.

Am boiling to death but the gold socks have made an appearance. The Spaniards don´t seem to have batted an eyelid despite the presence of my superior ankle garments.

¿Am rowing in a traditional Spanish coastal thing on Saturday - anyone got any tips?

I've worn a boatie baseball cap in Japan and Korea in the last fortnight. However, it is merely a souvenir cap from the HORR and not an official piece of First and Third kit. Does this still count?
by Soon to be ex-accountant - Wed 31st Jul 2002, 6:01pm
Mr. Glass and I will be embarking on a trip around the world in September and I'm sure some boatie kit may find it's way into our backpacks. We're planning both whale and polar bear spotting so hopefully we can get a photo opportunity there.

I can't personally claim any great prizes yet. I've worn my BPBC splashtop whilst skiing in France, and my FatBoy Trin top went with me to Kenya.

Anyone done a bungee jump in kit yet?

You know, I think I may have done... I certainly had both "The A Team" and "The Full Boaty" t-shirts with me in South Afica that summer. May have to dig out the photos...
