The Tideway Slug reports that Cambridge race against Leander in a fixture this weekend. Normally the support for Cambridge would be unequivocal, but I also note that Leander is to be coxed by 1+3 alumnus Steph Richards. Maybe we could hope for a Cambridge victory, but made much closer because of Leander's steering? (3 replies...)

The Varsity Football Match 2006 has been confirmed for April 2nd 2006, at Fulham's Craven Cottage ground at 1pm. That is three hours before the Boat Race starts on the river behind the ground. It should be a fantastic day in London for all Cambridge students, and the Football Club would appreciate your support. Tickets are £10 which gives you access to the newly re-developed Fulham village; a complex of bars, restaurants and cafes, match programme, Riverside Stand seating for the match and prime viewing space on the Riverside Terrace for the Goldie and Isis Race which is due to start at 4pm, and the 152nd University Boat Race, due to start at 4.35pm. Has anyone else seen the JL t-shirts that say "ROW FOR PEDRO" on the front and "Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills... feathering skills... catching skills... jumpies skills" on the back? See the JL page . Two (or three) queries: 1. Why Pedro? Is this really random or am I missing something? Is it a quote? 2. What are jumpies? (3. I was wondering if anyone knows of a reliable table comparing some kind of average boat speed/gold medal times, or anything really to give an idea of relative boat speeds across ALL the different classes. It's very hard to find any info on non-olympic classes, e.g coxed fours, and how they compare, speed wise to other boats. And/or can people offer opinions on this? Is a women's coxed four, for example going to be faster or slower than a women's pair? Women's eights and men's singles? (6 replies...)

Have discovered I have a spare FaT bow tie. Anyone currently rowing want one? Needs a little bit of a clean and perhaps an iron (can you iron silk?), but is essentially fit for purpose. (9 replies...)

There is a need to purge lots of old and unused groups from the website. I've put together a list of groups I think we should ditch, can everyone let me know which of the following should be kept. Tide Tables on the BBC by jmg - Fri 27th May 2005, 9:10am
In addition to the controversial new TV forecasts, the BBC seem to have made some quite positive changes to their weather website, including tide tables. Not being a regular on the tideway, I don't know whether this is well known and understood, but I wonder if anyone can explain reasonably simply why the shape of the curve changes so dramatically as you work your way downstream from 'Richmond' Lock to Kew, Hammersmith etc etc etc etc? Also, what effect if any does this have on the stream, particularly where on the curve would you expect the strongest stream? (4 replies...)

Does anyone have a good graphic of the cat n buns as it looks on the flag (not on as stitched on kit). Presumably when the new flag was made someone must have had something for that? Any idea what the official colours are for the blue and gold? (1 replies...)

I know it's taken a while, but I've finally found out how to get some srcf user space and how to use it. Way back at the time of Novice Fairbairns I took some videos of all the crews and I've now added links to them on the results page. I hope all these links work! If you want to see what your rowing was like a term ago you can have a look. I have to say that the videos aren't very good and that my newfound computer expertise (yes, that's right) doesn't extend to knowing a way of compressing them, so they're all around 10MB. And just so that I can get extra practice with links, they're all here as well: 1st novice men's VIII 2nd novice men's VIII 3rd novice men's VIII 4th novice men's VIII 1st novice women's VIII 2nd novice women's VIII 3rd novice women's VIII It's probably not worth it unless you have a fast connection (which I don't, so I haven't checked if any of this works...). Is it at all possible to have the bumps pages play the Radio 1 'Top 40' tune on loop when people browse them? Or perhaps just when they are looking at the bumps tables? I think it would add a lot to the site. (2 replies...)
