Pembroke's Boat Burning by JDT - Sun 22nd Jun 2008, 6:33pm
Okay, so whatever happened to the Pembroke boat burning? This is a tale to make us all realise how great Charles is. To re-cap, a boat burning organised by Charles goes as follows: Boat is taken to Backs; Boat is Burned; ????; Profit. How the boat burning went for Pembroke: > Boat was thrown into the river to get it to the other side by swimming along with it. > Boat then carried to Pembroke > Boat then covered in Petrol (yes, Petrol) > Boat then lit with a lighter (yes, a lighter) by the W1 cox. > Boat explodes with a bang; cox gets badly burned; rower gets injured; everyone else falls over. > PCBC Dinner is a little bit unhappy. Clearly not expecting current members of fat to be looking right now.... but if anyone knows of friends looking for a room in London, would be v grateful if you might pass on my details.... Tel is 07813 711665 70 quid + bills per week Standard sized double room, furnished, all mod cons, newly refurbished etc 5 mins walk from Abbey Wood train station - this is 25 mins from London Bridge, 30 mins from Cannon St and 35 mins from Charing Cross (Trafalgar Sq) 3 bed house, I live with another Accenture employee. SCUBA divers cannot pass wind at depths of 33 feet or below Someone just told me this but I am struggling to believe it. Can anyone tell me whether it's a fact or fiction, and provide supporting evidence? If it helps, at 33feet the water pressure is equal to 1 atmosphere. (4 replies...)

Found on Wikipedia when trying to research dengue fever. I can think of several ways to describe East Anglia but "developed, tropical nation?" Don't think so One major difference, however, is that malaria is often eradicated in major cities, whereas dengue is often found in urban areas of developed tropical nations, including Singapore, Taiwan, Brazil & East Anglia

Graham and I are renowned for being Far Too Competitive. We'll try to out-do each other on anything - pointless trivia, highest heart rate when training, whatever... But there's nothing quite like a game of top trumps. Except we don't always have a set of cards to hand. Which is why we invented ARA-card trumps (only works if you're club secretary and have about 30 of the things). The most recent game is "Seen on the train to Waterloo trumps" where Graham has just matched my "my-friend-Laura-from-Selwyn's dad" with a "Kieran West". So what next? Well that's what this thread is for: to let you know what we're trumping with next, and to share your experience of stupid games of one-upmanship... (24 replies...)

As there are 'too many' events in the Small Boats Regatta, it's a bit hard to get at them all in order to add results and reports, so I'm linking them all here: Maiden Sculls Fairbairn Junior Sculls Women's Championship Sculls Colquhouns Lowe Double Sculls Foster Fairbairn Pairs Magdalene Silver Pairs And yes, I realise that Colquhouns isn't technically in the Small Boats Regatta...

A bit of early warning if you're planning on being in a senior squad this Mich term, and aiming to go to the Fours Head. They've changed the rules to say that all sweep crews must have at least two points between them. Tin pots all round then!

This post is a last resort before email spam as I have asked most people who I remember seeing on the night of the boat club dinner... I woke up Sunday morning having lost various things, including my memory, but having gained a pair of TRAINERS in a JOHN LEWIS bag. Nobody has yet been to claim them from my room and I can't remember to whom they belonged. If you know someone who is looking for some trainers then I have them. If you know someone who is looking to buy some second hand trainers then put a £10 cheque in my p.hole and I'll post them to you.

I'm sure many people out there will be interested and pleased to hear that Dubya's PhD thesis is at the binders as of this morning and is being submitted today!! Congrats John. It feels a momentus day - for me especially given that you started rowing the same term I did, it's truly the end of an era! Also seems a good opportunity to link to The spoof manifesto - author unknown.

One thing which I don't think gets said enough on this website is thank you to the webmaster. Currently Bryn, originally Martin, and with others along the way, they have built a website which remains the envy of other sports clubs both in Cambridge and beyond. Although the site looks the same, it's clear that the improvements both big (BumpIT) and small (changing code to generate Torpids rules bumps charts) are ongoing and also a lot of work. The fact that I can put in all these links as well just makes it more fun. Next week is busy and stressful for everyone, but thanks to their work this site has become a brilliant reference point for live information and an archive of what's gone before. Thanks guys! Those of you outside college might be interested to know that Tom Coker has been elected TCSU President at the fifth attempt. I look forward to a full colour boat club pull-out in next year's Freshers' Handbook.

FaTBCFC vs BPBCFC football match by FaTBCFC 1st XI Captain 2007 - Fri 19th Jan 2007, 4:19pm
I am delighted to announce that the first annual FaTBCFC vs BPBCFC football match will kick off at 2pm on Saturday 17 March, at the Cranmer Road pitch (near Selwyn). If you would like to play, then please get in touch with me (bjg32 at cam.ac.uk) if you are a current member of First and Third, or with Neil Talbott (neiltalbott4 at hotmail.com) if you are a member of Black Prince. All levels of experience and skill are encouraged and, in the unlikely event that we have more than eleven players, we shall play rolling subs and everyone will get at least half a game. We are also looking for a referee (names have been mentioned...) and maybe even linesmen ('assistant referees') if anyone's keen. Please get in touch with me if you are willing to help out! After the match we expect to celebrate St Patrick's Day in an Irish-themed pub, or maybe just Wetherspoons, with a Justice-style post-match analysis. About half way through my stash of pictures from the Mays.... the rest will follow hopefully by the end of this week. Favourites so far... are this and this. Special mention must also go to the 5th boats catches. Very photogenic! Sorry that not all crews are as well represented as the 5th VIII! Not only did they do more rowing than anyone else... but it is much much easier taking these in the early divisions with fewer bikes and people about.
