JL t-shirts by Erica - Sat 24th Sep 2005, 5:25pm
Has anyone else seen the JL t-shirts that say "ROW FOR PEDRO" on the front and "Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills... feathering skills... catching skills... jumpies skills" on the back?

See the JL page .

Two (or three) queries:

1. Why Pedro? Is this really random or am I missing something? Is it a quote?

2. What are jumpies?

(3. Should I buy one, for $15, or would this jinx my relationship?!?)

Have answered this one for myself with a better search than last time; they are apparently just squat jumps. Google cannot help me with the others though...

Watch the film Napolean Dynamite, and you will understand. I think the shirts are brilliant and might get one.

Don't think it would jinx the relationship, but you may find that it's the first step towards the slippery slope which leads to stalking and a restraining order... or marriage (which is just another type of restraining order, really).

Here's what JL had to say...

Erica,

So you have found our Pedro Shirts online! Let me give you some history of the shirt before I let you know what you can do with them.

There is a movie here in the states that a lot of the school and university kids are all watching, "Napoleon Dynamite," it is kind of a weird and funny movie. Well there is a kid in the movie that ran for class president and his name is Pedro and a couple of the kids wore shirts that said "vote for Pedro." We basically took that phrase and made it work for rowing. And it has been a big hit here in the states.

As for if we can change the colors, sure we can but there needs to be a large enough order before we can. We will need an order of 12 shirts before we can do it and you will need to contact the Crewroom in London, or their sales rep for the Cambridge area, Simon Hames. I have attached their email address so that you can contact them.

So... James wants one... are ten other people interested, or shall I just get a red (boo!) and black one?

...are ten other people interested...?
I can't speak for nine other people but I'd get one.

Perhaps we can convince one or two of the novice crews to get them as crew t-shirts this year. That'd put us up there near 12.
