Kit by Tomos - Sun 3rd Mar 2002, 5:55pm
Does anyone have a 1st & 3rd splash top that they don't wear any more (eg. because they have a Black Prince one or something), they they'd be willing to sell? I'm not too concerned about getting a pristine new one, just something to keep the mud off if I do any more umpiring.

I know this is a cheeky request, but it was extremely successful in getting me a zephyr top last term, and at least I'm not abusing the email list this time...

I in fact have 2 (count them, two) 1st & 3rd splashtops. My original one is a lightweight one from Godfrey (bought in 1997); and I just got a new lightweight splashtop from CULRC that has the added benefit of being waterproof, so I'd be happy to give you my old one...

One more thing though.. could whoever's got my black cycle shorts (actually they were a loan from Will Fletcher for Mays '98) and my lower boats zephyr please return them?

John, exactly how many layers of kit were you wearing for Mays '98? I'd hate to think it took three days to hit Maggie due to excess weight in the stern (I'd always assumed it was just us not pulling hard enough) ;-)

I was wearing cycle shorts and zephyr, plus that nice lifejacket that Ingram made a gift of to CUWBC two years later, in Marlow... On the day it pissed it down, I also wore (from photographic evidence) the light-weight splashtop already mentioned, and waterproof trousers, and a cap.

Oh well, it was just our sloth, then. Got 'em in the end, though ;-)

I have ended up with +1 splash top after Saturday - forgot I'd stuffed one in the end of my bag. Belongs to somebody in the 1st VIII and is of the very lightweight Marnold variety, I think.

What lifejacket? I don't recall ever giving away any club equipment. In fact, I believe that I have made a net gain to club assets (thank you Oriel).

Thorne's, then.

Don't you remember? Brad had secured it for us, but it was still labelled "CUWBC" so you went over and gave it to .. dunno might have been Alex Stout? ... at Marlow the same day you coxed the four with me and Rose and Knight and Goh Kuan Tan, and Goh Kuan came off his seat but we still beat some random schoolboy four... and it was Rose's first outing on Bowside?

Ah. I do remember something like this now. I'll have to steal something back off CUWBC...

PS I remember that race. It was hilarious, I believe the lead changed about 6 times as both our cruising speed and # of shipwrecks was far in excess of theirs!

It was Kingston, not Marlow. And it was my second ever outing on bowside, having subbed into the 6th VIII once in May term.
