Cat and Buns by Joff - Tue 24th Apr 2007, 9:18pm
Has anyone got a high res version of the Cat & Buns?
by Martin P - Wed 25th Apr 2007, 9:02am
Best I've got is the one on the initial welcome page http://www.firstandthird.org if you're not logged in. Not ideal.

I had a look at getting a high res one done when I needed a cat and buns for my paddle. (It led to this quote. Apologies if that link points to a different quote - I don't know how to make sure my link is to a particular quote rather than just the nth one before the most recent.) In the end I didn't as it worked out cheaper (and I think nicer) to ask the signwriter to paint one onto a transparent sticker, and then stick that on (a process that I am about to repeat for my canoe).

Dan and I also looked for one to make a sticker for our Atlantic boat, but without success. If anybody would like to draw one in a drawing package, it would be a useful thing to have!

I gave it a try.

Not sure how convincing this is. I had to make many guesses while working of off our low-res version.

Talking T's must have a high-res version of the cat and buns that they use when they print the novice t-shirts. Might be worth asking if you can get a copy of that. I think it's missing the red tongue though to keep the print in one colour, but that can always be added later.

I'm pretty impressed with Brian's though. That's quite an effort. How did you even do it?!
by B.M. Richardson - Thu 26th Apr 2007, 3:28pm
I used Adobe Illustrator, so it's vector art.

Wouldn't have even known where to start if we needed the other crest...

And hence, the KSS (or VP ?) should presumably originally have had a version to give to them (and JL, Godfrey, etc.)

It's not high res. I wouldn't be surprised if they took it off the website.
I think Clothier had something which was fairly high res for sewing, but it was in whatever 1970s computer format the old fashioned sewing machines used.
by Rich - Thu 26th Apr 2007, 5:30pm
I tried Clothiers, but they couldn't help me. The Cat and Buns on Talking T's stuff is rubbish as far as I remember.

I honestly don't think there's anything for it but to take Brian's attempt and brush it up a little - it's already pretty good, just needs finishing off.

I reckon the way forward is to scan in a splashtop or such like (I think Pickhead might have done this a while back for the never produced BPBC website), and then use the drawing package to produce vector art over the top of it, so that it matches pretty much exactly. You can then export to gif / jpg / whatever, at whatever size you want, as the vector will scale properly.

The cat and buns graphic at the top left of this page is scanned from my (washed) all-in-one.
But I didn't vectorise it.

I think Brian's thing is great!!
by Joff - Thu 26th Apr 2007, 6:58pm
Yea, Brian's thing's brilliant. I was thinking of vector arting the website one, just thought someone might have one already done! I'm sure talking tees must have a proper high res version - perhaps in embroidery format - i'm sure I seem to remember once being in possession of such a thing when KSS-ing. I'm just trying to do a Valkyrie 'logo'. If anyone wants anything 'fun' doing on paintshop (c.f. lents dinner poster two years ago) let me know - I'm kidding myself that I've got loads of free time at the moment!

I'm happy to brush it up. Just let me know what to change.
by That's not my lion... - Fri 27th Apr 2007, 7:58am
Brian, it's great, but the nose just looks a bit too cartoony to me. Although at least he's not crossed eyed like the England lions here.

(Anyone with small relatives may have seen this book, which is what this conversation now feels like... If you haven't seen this book, go over to Heffers and look for it - it's great!)

Are you responsible for the current boathouse computer wallpaper? It's made my day!

Isn't it BRILLIANT?!!?!!!?!!!?!!!?!!
by Brian - Sat 28th Apr 2007, 5:42pm
here's another attempt.

I tried to fix the nose, and gave the other crest a try (a nightmare). Obviously, the vector art will never look exactly like any of our embroidered lions. But hopefully this is a bit closer, and will definitely print much better.

I'm happy to revise this if having the vector art will be of any use.

This is great. Much happier with that nose.

I can't speak for everyone, although as I often do so without invitation I might as well carry on and do so here. I'm sure a vector would be very very useful for lots of reasons so if you do have the time to tidy it up then please do. If it's possible to have a separate file with the 1st Trinity crest without the blue background then that would certainly be used.
by B.M. Richardson - Sun 29th Apr 2007, 11:00pm
Sure thing. Here you go.

The cat on the left has all of its blue bits filled in with black. The cat on the right has everything that isn't yellow "knocked out", so that's the one to use if you want to use it without the crest.
