After their win at Queens' Ergs, how will the Novice Women fare in Clare Novices ?
The 1st Novice Women won Queens' Ergs by over half a minute. But will that translate into rowing ability on the water? Will the age-old proverb

On the face of it, an uncontentious poll... but what of the chances of disqualification, equipment failure, or sinkings????

It's considered rather difficult to sink an VIII, and equipment failure during racing will probably result in some crabbing action, I suppose.

This should, of course, read

... "ergos don't float" be a relevant factor in the racing ?

my poor coxing trainee! we're already voting on her ability!
by dw229 - Sun 16th Nov 2003, 7:21pm
...and either you or one other unknown person has just voted she'll hit the bank! Such faith!

My vote stands, so long as the girls don't see stupid web polls like this and count chickens, etc. They've still got a way to go yet.

Of course women read silly web polls like this, but so long as they train and don't start being distracted by poultry they'll do very well... And since we all know FaT women rock, they'll likely have a rocky (crabby?) set of races and still win outright

I think they could probably win it rowing in sixes...

Is this yet another test to weed out any maggie scum hiding in our midst?

if we got to the semi's (which we did).. and beat girton despite rowing like a bunch of spackers (which we did) and me catching a crab EVERY ROUND, (which I did), then this lot can get into the finals easily. As can the seconds (which they will)... but only if the 3rds don't beat them to it(which they can!)...Whoooo!

Sounds like lots of counting the chickens to me... a good few days to go, yet! Good luck though. To everyone. We should probably have had a concurrent poll for the men - their result from saturday was pretty promising. :-)

Of course it should be noted that they can not only read them, but can vote as well...!

I'm interested in how (currently) 81% of people think they're going to win without having been quarter finalists....

Also I agree with Martin that the men are looking promising too (but I suppose as their coach I have to say that ;-) )

Maybe ...
I reckon that if the bank is hit, it will not be down to coxing error ...

Do Clare have a results archive which shows all the races and the margins (he said, lazily not bothering to look)? That'll tell you the chances of a DQ.
Equipment failure is related to the boat; if they stay in the Peter Brandt then... I'll stop there, so as not to jinx them.

The 1sts shouldn't be in PB- we have 3 crews entered, and fun though boat sharing is...
RJW negotiated grassy in PB though. The winter head, in Peter Brandt, without a crash?ludicrious!

I've done it too... I think its the winter head, not the boat.

happened in bumps this year too

I should point out that Peter Brandt was the most recent Trinity boat to win Clare Novices. Don't shun the pedigree!
by Dubya - Wed 19th Nov 2003, 10:15pm
Not only the most recent, I should add, but also the only!
