Athens 2004 Rowing Media Guide
http://dps.twiihosting.net/fisa/d...from Mike, Fri 13th Aug, 3:06pm
A must for rowing Stattos everywhere. The media guide for the Olympic Rowing Regatta contains all the info you could wish for on past medal winners and future prospects, the schedule, the venue and the finer points of the rules. It also includes a guide on how to row and a glossary of rowing terms. Nice to see that even for an Olympic Regatta they feel the need for a definition for "crab"...

Well, a bird in the US VIII did catch a crab while they were in contention in the final at last year's world championships. And I believe another girl [Romania springs to mind] did the same in Sydney.

As did one of the New Zealand Womens pair in the first round of this Olympic regatta.

Not to be sexist, but, has anyone else spotted a commonality here?
by Anna - Wed 25th Aug 2004, 11:55am
'Commonality'? Is that an Americanism John?

Also, in defence of women rowers, Colin Swainson was (unless I've been much misled) definitely not female and also a bit of a crab specialist.

Didn't a woman in the Australian VIII just give up or something?

:)

You knew what I meant!

I think you'll find that Colin Swainson had the blade knocked from his hands by the cheating filth.

Aparently the same Australian has given up in races before (World Champs or something similar).

Do you think she's a mole?

Hopefully this link should work.

I think it was taken around 200m from the finish - Sally Robbins was apparently "paralysed by fatigue".

No, she looks like a normal woman to me.

Must remember that one for my next race.

The best thing about the girls in the Aussie VIII was the way they all gave the girl death stares and then, as soon as they could see the cameras, it was all best mates again.

Great stuff.

On a side note - Dan, have you been posting messages about beach volleyball players on the Guardian Olympics Live page or (lock up your daughters) is there another DW out there.
by dw229 - Thu 26th Aug 2004, 11:34am
I think another DW has been providing that commentary...

And what's all this about locking up your daughters? I'm offended! How would I ever pull if you did that?

i'm sorry, but the thought of you pulling my daughter is about as horrifying as me having a daughter. is there anyone out there with a daughter who is remotely old enough for dan to pull?
