Up 2 - Bumped Peterhouse IV and Jesus VI
Wednesday
Bumped Peterhouse IV
Aperow Spritz started our bumps campaign (first ever for over three quarters of the crew) with that dawg in us. A feisty rate 37 start saw us immediately gain on Peterhouse (woof), who then put in a strong shift to keep us overlapping them for 300m further than we would really have liked. Not even that creative umpiring could keep Aperow’s bow off Peterhouse’s stern.  (Selene Corran)
Thursday
Bumped Jesus VI

Beer boat derby. Aperow Spritz asserted our dominance over the Amazons (Jesus VI).

Aperow contributed yet again to the Selene Corran May Bumps campaign: smug edition (did you know she’s already bladed twice??). Who really needs a blues blazer hey?

Friday
Technical row over
Rest day. Off goes the pistol and we gain on Peterhouse even faster than Wednesday. The presence of a rhythm call spurs the crew on through the bridge but day 3 proves too much for bow side, and their leader decides enough is enough, going crab fishing and ultimately having a bit of a lie down. We were feeling charitable and wanted to give the Amazons a chance after yesterday’s dominance (otherwise Aperow is untouchable). Opportunity lost by Jesus W6 who decide to start half a length too close to us, so technical row over is called. Wasted our kindness and their bump. Some would say low vibes on the row home, but really all just took a chance to appreciate the beautiful river. Bow side have achieved their objective, a very lovely warm rest day. (Selene Corran)
Saturday
Rowed over
An unbelievable reach for an over bump from W3 seeing as the next boat was 17.5 lengths ahead. Miracles do happen. Yesterday they did not.  (Amia Guha)
It’s 9am and three of Aperow Spritz’s most toma-filled rowers peel their eyes open, peering through day old mascara as the really very bright June sunlight shines through their curtains. Having braved funnels, the blokes in blazers wielding them, and inflatable obstacle courses all night, they are now about to face the real pinnacle of Cambridge sporting achievement: May Bumps Division 5. Rankled by the ragebait of the Jesus W6 so-called beer boat claiming to have been rapidly gaining on them yesterday, the Aperowers were keen not only to prove them wrong, but do so for 2.4k in the blazing heat. Loaded up on suspicious banana bread and 69p blue isotonic sports drinks, we were as ready as we would ever be. With Peterhouse having bumped out in front of us, a tactical lie from Daniel had all eight Aperowers convinced of the potential for an overbump on unnamed mystery crew. We’ll definitely catch them someday, must have just nipped off round the corner. The lie paid off and there were some rare compliments on Daniel’s racing line and a glorious f*nish for the funnest boat on the Cam, holding rate 31.5. Venimus, bibidimus, offendimus.  (Selene Corran)
