The first race of the season; a crew that has barely rowed together; new sides to row on and new changes to make. Yet we smashed the opposition out of the water, proving the invaluable worth of training in Seville (thanks alumni)!
Really great start, getting all the way down to 1:25 upstream (I'll take that any day as that's basically a bumps start but at 36) and then settled nicely to the 1:39/1:40 territory. Lost a bit of the spring to it going through the corner, but it came back nicely despite the headwind down the reach for a very impressive finish.
Also have to say: rowing with the new blades does really make things easier - the pickup and connection is just so much nicer to get and there was some pretty impressive bend on them today!

Not a bad result for our first IV+ race of the year! We still have a few things to improve on such as rowing technique, fitness and learning how to properly cook meatballs the day before a race.
We achieved the two things we came for: we haven't capsized(yet) and the Jolly Giant didn't shit himself during the race. Winning our category was a nice bonus!

Not too shabby for a scratch crew (10 mins of rollups while waiting at marshalling carried)
Did we take more rollups than strokes... Possibly?
M1A had better watch out, technique seems to come pretty close to beating leg girth (but also I can't speak highly enough of everyone's performance that race - Vlad made us fight for every second, and fight we did)!

Good race for sure! Very decent performance and good splits for a crew with just one (and zero for me...) water session since Mays. Bit amazing how quickly an annoying 2.6k race turns into a fun piece on a beautiful day.
