I think a wake up call for us (well hopefully), M2 were only two seconds behind us.
After seeing Will's lines on Strava (I know I am one to talk) M2 definitely rowed better than we did.

Good race. Quite a bit of room for improvement on the technique side of things for us (ngl I think mainly for me), but this was the best rowing we've done so far this term. 1:56 avg splits is not bad!

Huge thanks to our cox Vlad for subbing in as 7 seat, and huge thanks to George for coxing us today.

Try not to take air strokes challenge: impossible :)) (Vlad Spataru)

My first win as a cox ... and most undeservedly so.
Some of the worst coxing I have ever done, not having coxed since Mich didn't help.

Innovation has been brought to the FaT women's side recently, and this extended to a stunning new race strategy, where we were still deciding on which side some of the crew would be rowing <24 hours pre-race. Other crews seemingly eschewed this tactic, but given they finished behind us it might be advisable that they try it.

We discovered (at marshalling, once the division was already underway) that for whatever reason, they were offering the choice of a rolling or standing start (given the standing start takes place before the start line, is it really a standing start?); it is a testament to the crew's alacrity (the word of the term for many of the crew's novice era) that we avoided the well-oiled rolling starts we'd been practising all term in favour of the hastily-pieced-together standing starts from the outing before the race.

The row as a whole was very positive - massive progress from the previous week - but still with lots of progress to be made: come Bumps, those other crews won't know what has hit them.

Thanks should be extended to Zara for subbing in (craftily ejecting a different sub to ensure receipt of pots), and also to Andrew, for making sure we got a proper workout against the full flow of the stream.
